Quickbooks Help....

...How do I enter my pay into Quick Books?...Do I just enter it as a bill for the individual job just like a bill for materials?I would think that would be the thing to do but am unsure. And I asume that the profit is accounted for in some way?I am tempted to hire someone to show me how to realy use Quick Books. It is a pretty cool app. but there are alot of things I am unsure of....

I can find out about that for you. My wife is VERY familiar with QB. She's been a bookkeeper for about 15 years.

Have your accountant set up the chart of accounts. Then it's just plug and chug.

If you don't have an accountant, get one. He or she will save your butt and save you money. They pay for themselves.

So would it be better to just get an accountant and have them show me the basics?

It's more fun to have them set up the chart of accounts and then fix your crazy entries on April 14.

I enter my pay as a draw. Sometimes I pay for things out of my pocket so I create a journal entry where I credit draws and debit materials or whatever I bought.

Do you make it a "job cost" for each different job?

Not usually, when I pay my material bills from the wholesale house, I charge them to a job for job costing purposes. Usually when I buy something out of my pocket money it's nothing that I charge to a job, like a shovel or something.

Re: Quickbooks Help....

Set up your items like cost codes, then post your costs to items when you "enter bills". You can enter invoices against the items too and get profitability by item. You need to check the box that says you are using items as a contractor.
