Protecting Your Computer

All the programs that I am listing and providing links for are free programs or you can donate to them which is not a bad Idea. There are of course pay programs but I have never needed one.
I see many people on forums that have problems protecting their computers from all the garbage on the internet. It’s a very simple thing to do.

ANTI-VIRUS
AVG…..http://www.majorgeeks.com/download886.html
Antivir…http://www.free-av.com/
Avast…..http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
Free on line scans
Trend Micro….http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Panda…………http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm
McAfee……….http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp

FIREWALLS
Zonealarm……http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conten...ku_list_za.jsp
Kerio………….http://www.kerio.com/kpf_download.html
Outpost………..http://www.agnitum.com/products/outp...e/download.php

SPYWARE PROTECTION
Ad-Aware SE…http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Spybot S&D…...http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
Install and use both Ad-Aware and Spybot at least once a week.
Also install Spywareblaster it’s a great free program Spywareblaster…..http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Browser hijacker detection and cleaning
Cwshredder….http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract..._download.html

This program is one of my favorites and is a great addition to any computer. It will clean all the garbage off that windows likes to save to your computer. Please read instructions.
Ccleaner…….http://www.ccleaner.com/

I am also including a link to install HiJackThis. Although HJT should not be used if you do not know how to read your HJT log. It will delete anything you tell it too so it’s best left up to the experts. The forums I am giving links to will help you with this process and you will then be in charge of your computer once again. HiJackThis…..http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Last but not least you need to control your cookies. Some cookies are needed such as cookies that are installed for forum use or for online banking. Other than that cookies to me are the next closest thing to email spam. Cookies suck and some are used to track your online use and gather information. If you use Browsers like Firefox or Opera you can control the cookies that websites try to install on your computer. If you still use IE and I can’t think of a single reason to do so but if you do you can use this free program to take control of cookies.

Ccleaner sounds interesting. Has anyone else downloaded it and used it?

Hmm, I decided to DL it and try it, but noticed on the set-up page that to use it, all my surfing is redirected to google's web servers. Doesn't sound very good to me. If I can't speed up things on my end, doubtful that google can make my pc any faster.
