Re: Pocket Pc/smartphone

Not being a 'techie', I want my phone to do 2 things. Ring when someone calls and connect when I call. I don't think that it's too much to ask and think that the service companies should get down the basics prior to offering I-Net, MP3,............

IMHO, the basic service needs a lot of work.

Had one, didn't like it personally, so I sold it.

Cingular 8125, pda, internet browser, phone, camera, mp3................ Give it to your kid for a week and he will figure it out for you. I spent an hour with a knowledgeable retail sales person while they showed me how to work the phone and programed it for me.

I had the girl set up the e-mail since I did not know the answers (pop and dns settings?). The beep option is under the "notifications". I leave my phone on 24/7 so I have to disable it at night since I get e-mail 24/7. The calendar is a live saver, no need for a pda or any paper calendars. You should be able to "borrow" an internet connection at a higher speed with the phone, just make sure you disable the function if you are not using it, if not your battery will drain.

Give it to your kid for a week? Hell, any kid over the age of 6 will figure it out in about a minute and a half!

Ask your kid, or if you don't have any, any neighbourhood child will be able to do it in about 30 seconds!

Re: Pocket Pc/smartphone

i've had the 8125 for roughly six months now, love it so far, especially when I got the bluetooth headset to go with it. Now I can talk on the phone and enter info into the unit at the same time, and sinc it with my office PC at the end of the day. Definetly saves me time, and I don't lose/misplace notes anymore.

Re: Pocket Pc/smartphone

I got a HP IPAQ Pocket PC about 3 years ago and it worked well for what I used it for. My wife would answer the phone and enter new estimates into Microsoft Outlook. Then, at night I would come home and dock my Pocket PC to recharge and it would download all my new appointments. In the morning I was ready to go.

But beyond that and some small excel spreadsheets that I kept on my sales targets and advertising expenses I didn't use it for much. I guess it just depends one what your expecting.

I think a phone/pda would be nice as long as it's not too big. The iPhone looks awesome if it wasn't so expensive.

Just buy a real pda phone and have twice as many features for less price... And if music on your phone is critical add an SD (I think you can get them up to 16 GB) and keep your music on a STATIC drive instead of an unreliable HDD based player. So if you drop it your HDD does not crash leaving you with a bulky phone that does not play music anymore. (Unsure if the iphone is HDD based or not as I can not find real tech specs on it.)

I have the 8125 as well and I love it. I purchased the unlimited data plan, text messaging and a fat 1gig mini SD card. I'm like a walking computer.
