PDA's

Does anyone have any suggestions as far as what is a good PDA to use out in the field?

My public display of affection is sometimes a hug or a kiss, but mostly me and the wife just hold hands.

Yeah, I have one in the drawer here. Dude, it's a dell.

But I haven't even had it on the charger in over a year.

Re: PDA's

Well, let me know what you got and how much you want. My company does everything thru BuildTopia, so it's easier for me to make notes in a PDA and then import them on the laptop then to have to write them on a pad and then go back and type everything in.

I've got a Palm Zire, I like it, it takes pictures and I have the building codes, NEC and several other important documents loaded on a SD memory stick. For the guys not using them any more there's a program called Omni Remote. It works on most portable devices and turns the unit into a remote control for all types of stuff, it's great for changing channels on TV's at restaurants and bars and screwing around with your friends.

Re: PDA's

i got hooked on one. i bought a used garmin ique from ebay. the feauture i love the most is the gps. i love it, i put in job addresses each night with notes. During the day, i punch in the job notes as the job is completed and love it. i still use a pad for doing estimates, the notes on a pda are tooo difficult to write out quickly. for small service work, it is great though. keeps a running list of supplies from all of my vendors, i hit the vendor and it tells me what i need and quantities.

if you can teach yourself to use one, it will save you a lot of time and aggravation. (that is a really big if for most of us including myself, us old dogs hate learning new tricks.)

Re: PDA's

I have a Palm LifeDrive. It does voice recording. I like it but....the battery life is poor and and its performance seems to suffer from time to time to from what I imagine is a lack of sufficient RAM. That being said, it's been a good piece of equipment.

My wife has a Palm Tungsten. If it had voice recording I would have opted for it over the LifeDrive. It's more compact, has better battery life, and doesn't suffer from the RAM issues the LifeDrive has. If I had to replace the LifeDrive today I'd buy the Tungsten.

I have a Palm Zire 72s and it does just about everything. It replaces the clipboard almost. I find it rather handy.

Re: PDA's

I tried some cheap one's to see if I like it, it had some advantages but I'm finding it hard to part with the cash for a good one.
