Network Magic Software

I can count on one hand the products that I have purchased that lived up to their hype. Usually if I get a product to deliver on 1/2 of what I expected from it I consider it pretty decent. Network Magic is a product that fully delivered on all it's promises.

I have 3 computers that were supposed to be on a wireless network I set up about a year ago all running XP professional. They've been on and off of it randomly and haphazardly for the last year, even paid some geek to fix it about six month ago. Best I've had is one or two computers actually talking to each other. Try to share files and get all kinds of BS going on. Computers have been jacked up for the last 6 months as I contemplate my next move.

I accidently saw this thing called Network Magic on the shelf at Office Depot. $29.00 with a money back guarantee. The box says just load it on your computers and it will do everything for you, sets everything up automatically, fixes all problems, tunes it all up and will get you up and running automatically.

Figured, Yeah right! As long as your willing to struggle with it for 2 or 3 hours I might get something better than what I have now, which isn't much.

Long story short, is I followed the direction, load it on each computer, go back to 1st computer and activate it, then activate it on the other computers from the 1st computer. All I had to do was give it the id and password to my router and it was up and running in 60 seconds!

Everything works perfectly. It tested everything, showed what was not working right and fixed it all by itself. Optimized everything in about 30 seconds. File sharing is now a breeze, it gives you a network map showing your entire network and all resources, tons of info if you want it or just ignore it and actually use your computers without knowing a damn thing!

If you are having trouble with a home or office network or you want to set one up but have been reluctant or intimidated to try to do it, spend $29 on this thing !

Here is a link to their website for more info http://www.networkmagic.com/

Enjoy

Re: Network Magic Software

Don't quite understand why it would need the user/password for your router unless it was going to start messing with that too..
But if it works for you, let's hope it's now not being used to set all your computers up as spam zombies

Let's see what it does to my network..

Re: Network Magic Software

That's a good question, I didn't really think about it before so you made me go look at it again. During loading of the software it asks for that information, but it does have a box to click off that option and continue witout it. It says some of the functionality won't be available without it.

I think this feature might be why :

Quote:
Remote Access is an optional feature of Network Magic that lets you access files on your home network from anywhere using just an Internet browser. You can also share files on your home network with family and friends.

The host computer is the computer where you set up your Remote Access Web site address. Network Magic allows you to set up one host computer in your network. Requirements for the Remote Access host computer:

Access shared files on your home PCs over the Internet when you are away
Create a personalized Web site with public and private (password protected) access
Share photos and files with friends and family in only a few clicks!
With the RSS capabilities friends and family can subscribe to your Web site "feed" and view your public content (such as photos) from their favorite RSS viewer
Broadcast images and live video from your Web camera to your Web page
  • Network Magic Remote Access lets you publish folders on any PC in your home to your own personal Web site
  • This Web site runs on one of the PCs in your home (you designate which one)
  • The built-in Dynamic DNS means your Web site will remain accessible even if your ISP’s standard service includes only a dynamic IP address (which most do)
  • Once you've published folders to your personalized Web site (you choose your personal Web site address – the format will be something like http://jetsonfamily.net2go.com) you can visit your site from any Internet browser and access your files!
Remote Access is an advanced feature that requires the support of particular routers. To see if your router is compatible please visit here.

This is like a Windows version of nmap (hackers tool). Neat. I'd recommend it to people who know enough to be dangerous but not enough to know what they are doing. Good find.

Awesome find Mike! I've been struggling to get my PC's to 'see' each other for months now. If you haven't been hacked in 2 weeks, post back here and I'll try it too.

LOL, on a "network" everything is behind the router and it acts as a hardware firewall preventing access to your network IF you have the wireless security set. Open wireless? Welcome hacker!
Dana

BTW, I've been using this software for several months and it works great.
