My File List Is Backwards?

Ok, let me explain. When I open a folder to access a file, the list starts at Z, instead of A. This is apparently a system-wide default setting because it happens in every folder I open.

To explain it better, let me throw out a hypothetical situation. Say I want to post a picture here. The name of the picture is Adams_003.jpg. I browse for the folder, click Browse > My Documents > My Pictures > Adams. When the Adams folder opens, I see something like this: Adams_105, Adams_104, Adams_103, etc. Instead of seeing Adams_001, Adams_002, Adams_103, etc.

This isn't really important, but drives me nuts. Does anyone know if there is a default setting somewhere to make these folders open in alphabetical or numerical order, the right way instead of upside down and backwards? ARGHH!!!

Its probably something simple, and staring me right in the face, but I can't find it.

Right click in folder, Arrange Icons by Name, do it again and it will reverse the order.

Re: My File List Is Backwards?

Do I need to do that everytime I open a folder, or will that create a system-wide change?

Re: My File List Is Backwards?

I am assuming winxp.

Open a folder, click on the gray bar where it says "name" it should have a little arrow beside it. this denotes that this column is set as the "arrange by..."

click it once, your names are alphabetical, click it again, your names are reverse alphabetical. down arrow means reverse, up arrow means alphabetical

now to keep it there. while you're still in the folder, go to Tools>Folder Options>View Tab>Apply to All Folders.

This should keep it looking this way from now on. If not, you've got something much deeper and I'd have to walk you through it slowly.

In that same:

now to keep it there. while you're still in the folder, go to Tools>Folder Options>View Tab>Apply to All Folders.
There is a check box in the window below the Apply to All Folders button (may have to scroll down), Remember each folder's view settings, make sure it's checked (selected).
