Re: IPhone Or Blackberry?

I'd also add that I use an iTouch in addition to my blackberry. It's got some of those handy tools because you can load up almost the same apps that you can in the iphone, but it hasn't got 2 features, the camera and the phone. Both are nice, but I have them in my blackberry. (you can use it to play music too)

Re: IPhone Or Blackberry?

I've been a big fan of Blackberry, I use the Tour 9630, and can vouch that it is a great phone. If anyone needs a solid case, check out the Otterbox Defender, perfect for being out on the site, its a little expensive but well worth every penny.

That being said, I have been keeping my fingers crossed that the iPhone eventually comes to Verizon as I am very happy with their service and we're tied to them for another year via contract. I'm a Mac guy which is my main reason for wanting the iPhone. Either way, you really can't go wrong.

I own both, and can attest to just the opposite. The iPhone has a tougher case (esp the original aluminum model, but the 3G models are just as strong if not more). The body frame construction is just a superior design and better reinforced than the BB.

Every person i know in the UK who has had an iphone has cracked their screen. None of them work in construction but in offices and they are no where near as tuff as a blackberry. The galss screen is where the problem is. It needs to be a lot tuffer than what they currently use. You can crack the galss by leaving the phone in your back pocket and sitting down.

Re: IPhone Or Blackberry?

I think my iphone 3gs is pretty sturdy.
I did get and otterbox for it but, duh I wanted to keep the phone as nice as I could.

I have had my new iphone for 4 weeks and I have dropped it 6 times, I also sit on it as well.
I am not real careful with a phone. Phone still looks new and works perfect.

Re: IPhone Or Blackberry?

Type in broken i phone on goggle images and see what the most common problem is. A screen protector can help but not a great deal. I will never know why they used glass. It's the worst thing to use on displays. Whats funny though is the touch screens still work after they have been smashed. Many of my mates just left them smashed as the cost to repair is unreal.

I've been framing and my iPhone is in my tool bags with the saw dust and nails. It's fallen out at least a dozen times. It's just as durable as any BB, which I have also had for years before the iPhone. I think no matter what, if you abuse it, you will break it eventually. Maybe I've been lucky, but I treat all my phones the same.

The otterbox is one tough case.

http://www.otterbox.com/iphone-3g-3g...defender-case/

I thought they said it was like impact resistant glass or something, maybe scratch proof.

Re: IPhone Or Blackberry?

It makes the size of the phone twice as thick.
It has a well sealed plastic case that snaps around the phone and then the silicone rubber shell goes over that.

It bounces like a rubber ball when you drop it!!

Re: IPhone Or Blackberry?

Hi,
As both are having their own pros and cons go for the one that best serves you...For example,
I phones-iPhone has a faster CPU than Blackberry, Iphones have more memory capacity,iPhone’s touchscreen makes it far more user-friendly than Blackberry’s “qwerty” keyboard.
Blackberries-Blackberries change voice to text and text to voice more adroitly than iPhones, they manage messages more efficiently...etc.,

So go for the best....

I use the Blackberry Storm. It does everything other Black Berries do plus it has a large screen for showing pictures to clients. The messaging is great on BBs and you can stream music from Pandora. A big plus for the BBs is you can multi task. I am usually running 2 or 3 programs at once. They also have replaceable batteries because no battery will last a year of hard use.

Re: IPhone Or Blackberry?

I went back and forth, as well, about a year ago on which way I should go. I needed a new phone, and at that time had the BB Curve. It served its purpose, but I thought I wanted something "cooler". After talking with a high pressure sales person at AT&T, who continually convinced me that I am a moron for even considering a blackberry, I headed over to Verizon. To keep things "fair", I told them I was interested in the BB Tour and Storm II. They asked me what my business was, and when I told them - immediately they said NEVER to get a touch screen. The sales men said that any touch screen, whether an LG, Blackberry, iPhone, when dropped at a job site from even 8 feet will have sever adverse effects. However, a Tour or Curve could likely suffer the fall. Then there was this - you cannot make any touch screen work right if you have dirty hands. So you've been humping along digging a footing, and your phone rings - can't answer your iPhone because there is dirt on your finger...so I went with the BB Tour - Love it!

Of course Verizon is going to tell you that. They want your business and they don't have the iPhone.

I use it in construction every day. I have no problems at all with it, including dropping.

Besides, you can't find a Construction Master app on the BB.

Re: IPhone Or Blackberry?

Ya I love how guys compare these things and then say "I have an aluminum case for my Iphone and it is indestructible." Ya well lets compare apples shall we? Stop the case comparisons. I never bought a case for my BB Bold. I have dropped it on tile, concrete, pavement, hardwood, in a puddle, in the mud. Now tell me your stupid toy of an Iphone will withstand that with out a case that you have to buy for half the price of your device with a contract!

Sure I could buy a big expensive case for my BB why would I when its a sturdy as that? The body of my BB is scarred and scratched all to pieces. It keeps going. Those I phones are nothing but a toy. Besides what carpenter in his right mind would use a stupid phone as a level? Or some measuring app on a phone? I would be laughed off my sites if I used one of them like that.

Facts are fact. BlackBerry is a business tool. I phone is a stupid toy for boys. Want a phone that is serious and will perform till the cows come home get a BlackBerry. If you want a toy get an I phone. Besides who the heck has time on a job site to play games on a phone anyway? If I have that amount of free time I am going for a coffee. Forget games.

Wow, my longest ongoing thread. Guess opinions are like a Ford vs. Chevi type thing. So far the thing I like about my Blackberry over the Iphone is the flash on the camera and the well organized e-mail set up. The thing I dislike about the Blackberry is the learning curve is higher, I still haven't figured out how to work most the stuff on it. Does anyone know how to use the navigation system on the Blackberry?

I've actually never had a problem with the touch screen on the iPhone, being receptive to dirty fingers. I have however, had problems with the trackball on a blackberry being responsive after being touched with dirty fingers. Once you get the dirty or oil or whatever into the trackball, and can't use it... the phone is nearly useless.

I have to take extreme caution at never touching it with dirty hands, and always try to clean it and rub the ball around real fast break anything free on it.

Business tool? not really, it's lagging behind with every feature now today. The only thing right now the BB is good for, is security, encrypted email, etc. so if you're not working for the DoD, a financial institution, etc. then it's a moot point. Those security features are also only a limitation of software, which can be done on any platform too, I might add.

Look, I have both a BB and an iPhone. The fact that the iPhone has games that can be downloaded, does not a toy make it. You can download games on the BB too. Everything (beside the aforementioned) that can be done on a BB, the iPhone can do, and actually do it better in nearly all cases.

The problem with the BB, isn't the hardware, it's the software. RIM has dropped the ball for the last few years, letting every other platform overtake them in features.

The core OS of the BB is extremely dated, the browser is horrible, and even it's flagship feature - email, is so limited now.

You can't get proper two-way IMAP syncing with email (you can if you pay up the butt for corp email services though), and you have a limitation on the size of a message before it's truncated. So for a "business tool", that's a big problem if you want to see, say, a 10MB PDF attachment. I can pull said attachment on my iPhone in about 10-15 seconds, and view it just fine.

The iPhone has become very successful in business circles, due more so to the versatility of the software, not just the hardware. The Android platform is also gaining much ground, due to it's software. Expect to see both overtake the Blackberry into obsolescence in the very near future, unless RIM does some serious changes with OS 6. I wouldn't hold your breath though, after seeing the changes in 5, from 4.x recently.

Re: IPhone Or Blackberry?

A friend of mine works in the Verizon data division. He told me that it will go down in history as the worst decision a business ever made. The day Verizon said no to Apple because they didn't want to give up their little VCast thing. Is that still available? They have been trying to play catch up for the past couple of years now. A couple of years ago, the cellphone was essentially at it's peak, then Apple came and blew it open and started a whole new wave. I have had the Curve and it was nice. There is no comparison to the Iphone though. I don't know anything about the Droid so I can't compare that. Can't work with dirty fingers? That is funny, I wonder if the salesperson is just preaching "theory"

Well actually Greg, you are so far behind the technology curve, you don't even realize it. Sure, if you are getting tard apps like the level and zippo lighter, you are indeed not using it to its potential. Have you ever owned an iPhone? If no, then your opinion is baseless. I owned an 8800 and Bold, both very nice phones.

Fact is that one can actually MAKE a tard app like the level. You don't see them for the BB, because....YOU CAN'T MAKE ONE!

I have never had a case for my iPhone. I've dropped it a few times on concrete, in the puddle, and 8' off the top plate. I don't suggest that with any phone I guess I just pay attention a little more with what's in my hand

The level of applications out there, while there are hundreds of useless apps, there are thousands that are as useful or better. My most useful is the Construction Master for the iPhone. Blackberry does not have this. And to quote someone "The Blackberry App Store is like a pawn shop that only sells used 8-track players"

Both have their pros and cons and in some cases, the BB has some nicer tools. But if you think that the iPhone just has toy games, you are dead wrong. BB isn't even in the same game as Apple.

The last image shows page 1 of the business app section. 100 apps. There are a total of 3900+ apps...just in the business section
