Google Search Wiki

This could have far reaching effects at some point. Roll out is ongoing right now, you may not have it yet. Link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8Pl1H0dIXE . Type in "contractor talk" into google, when search comes up scroll to bottom of page and click "See all notes for this searchwiki". This service by Google also allows a user to delete search results they do not want showing up. Up arrow and x box to right. I'm sure these results of deletion will somehow show up in Googles search algorithm. Possibly having sites voted down in the search results.

What your take on this?

Re: Google Search Wiki

I have done quite a bit of reading on it, and I would be shocked if they impliment this in to their natural listings. It is possible it could be a small factor, and that would not shock me. What would shock me is it having any real weight with SERP results. It is just too easy to manipulate. There have been other search engines that tried this method only to fail miserably. All it takes is a few hundred dollars and a contact with a very resourcfeul 16 year old in India and anyone could be at the top of the SERPs.

On the flip side; this could be one heck of an improvement for a good site. Someone searchs out your type of work, and likes what you have to offer. They click up your site on their own google search wiki. You go out and do the job, and they are still impressed. One year later they have forgot about you, or just cannot remember your name. They do a similiar search and find you again because they moved you up a year ago.

A couple other things to keep in mind. The majority of potential search users do not have a google account. Which is required for it to work. Plus I would imagine many companies would not allow it on their network, so people doing searches at work would be out.

Do a search on it, and you will find many other reasons why it is just a novality for now.
