Re: Google Apps

I use GMail, GTalk, and a few webmaster tools like analytics.
I tried the web excel and word replacements and they were ok but nothing that would make me give up Microsoft Office. Maybe if you were on a mobile phone or something like that it would be a good solution.

Are you using them George?

Re: Google Apps

I have been using Gmail more than Outlook Express.
I read some of the reviews and I am thinking about it.
I think a web based suite is a good idea, more than a problem.
With their calendar, the best web mail out there and contact management plans, all nicely integrated, it looks interesting.
Salesforce is on board as a high profile customer, also project management plans are on the way, so who knows what the possibillities are.
How big a handicap would an imperfect Google docs be anyway?
We are mostly writing proposals now.

Re: Google Apps

I used Google to make my website and really liked it. Everything was easy to use and took very little time. But then it went sideways, for almost two weeks I couldn't save or publish any changes. I went into the forums to look for help and it looked like everyone was having the same problem. I have lots of patients and would have no problem waiting for things to get fixed but what turned me off is Google ignored everyone the whole time. They never answered any emails or posts in the forums. They could have at least posted in the forum something like :We are aware of the problem and are working to fix it, thank you for your patients. But nothing....So I started work on a new website with Canadianwebhosting.com and I actually like it a lot better. Should be published within the next couple days. I'm still going to keep my .com with Google so I have my Gmail and apps but redirect it to the new .ca I created.
What now worries me about the apps is what if they go down like the page creators did? Will it be handled the same way as the page creators were when they went down?

Just set up an account (free) at Google and it will give you some code to insert on your site. The whold process takes about 10-15 minutes. I use visastat and it filters out the BS hits (spiders, bots, program generated........)

Re: Google Apps

Now that I have had time to explore more of what Canadian Web Hosting and Cpanel have to offer I don't think I will keep my .com with Google I'm going to park and redirect it. I have everything I need with them and more. The email service is awsome, Gmail has nothing on it. And the options I have available for creating and maintaining my website are a mile longer then what I had available to me with Google page creators. My website stats are every bit as good as Google analytics. The only thing missing is being able to tell what city my users are in. But I'm sure that is in the advanced stats stuff that I haven't explored yet.

Re: Google Apps

We use Google analytics for three websites. I keep the book Google Analytics 2.0 as a handy reference on my desk. I found it especially useful when just starting out and setting up filters, goals, etc. although for more advanced users it may be lacking. Plus the book's not that expensive on amazon.

Google Docs has proved useful, especially its collaboration feature. For instance, we used the spreadsheet to share the names of training class invitees with our Takagi sales rep agency. It allowed us to coordinate who made payments to the rep agency. It saved us time without the hassle of having to constantly share updates by email, and outside sales found it especially nice to see who had already been contacted. Currently I'm using it to coordinate a large cruise promotion. Granted access to the travel agent, IT department, marketing and those salesman with accounts going. It allows us to have a central, updated list of passengers which keeps everyone on the same page.

I also use the calendar to organize both my work and personal life. Some useful features are the color coding of events to correspond to say work and home. We also integrated it into our website to notify contractors of price changes and counter days. A feature I've really found useful is that you can send text message notifications to your cell, or a daily agenda by email. I'll never forget a birthday again
