Google Adwords Coming To Quickbooks?

Interesting... seems that Google and Intuit have signed a deal to bring Google services to quickbooks.

I think that's what it means. Time to break out some old DOS programs.

Ya know all the advertisements that quickbooks already throws at ya kinda pisses me off. It's sickening. I pay $400 to be advertised to? F that! I can't wait until the first hack is released that blocks those friggin adverts.

Maybe it's time to investigate other programs.

Re: Google Adwords Coming To Quickbooks?

Maybe I am just paranoid, but to me, the moment QB opens the doors up that much, I'll be changing software. QB holds the guts of most companies, the things held most sacred and protected. I don't like the idea of bringing in more opportunities for it to be hacked.

I've tried out several pieces of software lately and this might just be the thing to push me into buying ServiceCEO after all. Tried Priosoft... big ripoff. Horrible tech support, lots of gliches. Tried TurtleCreek. Even worse and very cartoon like. ServiceCEO looked great, seemed user friendly and I was sold... right up until I found out you could not use it on a server or buy additional seats/licenses. They require you to purchase a seperate copy for each user.

"Intuit also plans to embed Google Desktop search into QuickBooks 2007 so users will be able to quickly find customer, retailer or financial information stored inside QuickBooks or on their desktop"

This might just make me change my mind and buy ServiceCEO anyway.

Re: Google Adwords Coming To Quickbooks?

Call me crazy, but I never jumped on the QuickBooks bandwagon. I was exposed to Peachtree during the DOS days, so that's what I've always used. It's been in the market way longer than QuickBooks has.

Re: Google Adwords Coming To Quickbooks?

As a startup I've liked the simplicity QB offers. If Intuit insists on letting Google in my books this'll probably drive me to Peachtree or Goldenseal and payroll back to ADP.

Trust me Pipeguy, don't waste your cash... and if you do, be prepared for your 4-6 weeks of wait time to get a refund too.

Our accountant uses Peachtree ... hmmm, that should have told me something!

Re: Google Adwords Coming To Quickbooks?

I'm not sure how bad it will be and will reserve judgement until then. I don't like this as a rule. I feel that my business phone is there only because I pay for it, and that others should not have the option to use it for their own self-interest when I don't profit (i.e., telemarketers)

As far as paying a premium for a software package that interrupts my workday in order to bring me "this message from our sponsor", that won't fly. QBs is doing fine with that, and most of it can be turned off or is a one-time thing, but if it gets to be a constant, I'll find another solution.

For all of you that are running or will run to Peachtree, just remember, this is not an industry of leaders or innovators. This is an industry of sheep. Someone leads and the rest follow. I expect this to be a major pain in the butt with many recurring software titles.

I've run businesses with colored pencils, columned books and with spreadsheets and I'm just stubborn enough to tell Intuit to hang in their ear and go back to them if I think I'm losing money over their latest episode of "Pimp my Software".

Re: Google Adwords Coming To Quickbooks?

I just read exactly what the Google will do. I think it sounds terrific, and as always - this is another tool and option. You won't have to use it. Here is the link - it is directly to intuit and it describes all the different offerings. (no - I am NOT affiliated with quickbooks ) it is what I am proficient in.

Re: Google Adwords Coming To Quickbooks?

On the link you provided all it seems to me is that Intuit took a bunch of their pre-existing services and bundled them into one control panel with my accounting software? Or why couldn't I just log in online and do it on my google account? I see it as a way for google to attract more uses but not as a benefit to existing web saavy users.

My concern is that I will actually see the adwords displayed on my desktop, as I see the adwords displayed on this and almost every other website. I have no problem seeing the adwords here but I don't pay thus this site is supported by those ads. However I do pay for quickbooks and I do not want to view ads while working and crunching numbers.

Re: Google Adwords Coming To Quickbooks?

It seems to me that with the new google integration, it will make it easier for people to create a web page and advertise on the internet. You however have to sign up and pay for this offer. The desktop tool states this..
Quote:
Easy, quick, and flexible - You have full control over the search. The Google Desktop tool can search QuickBooks data only when it is accessed within QuickBooks and you can decide whether you want to install the tool or not. Your QuickBooks information is never sent to other parties - ever.
So again - I don't see how there will be "ads" for other stuff

I really don't see it being a problem for me. I am using pro 2005 with no intention of upgrading any time soon. What reason do I have to upgrade?

Depends on the options you are using. Support for their products goes away after a while.

Payroll form and data support is not longer offered for 2003 stuff, and 2005 is going soon.

We use QuickBooks payroll ... and they will be sending me 2007 as part of our payroll package.

I do say that there is great value in using whatever your accountant uses. You can just pass disks back and fourth, and if you get stuck, they can help you with a little phone support. If my accountant used QB, I'd have to switch.

md, if you like that aspect of it, you might want to try quickbooks online. no software to install/break and your accountant can login form a browser. works for us.

Yeah, that idea scares the crap out of me, from a security standpoint. I hesitate to even verify my bank balance with the online banking. I dial the phone instead.

Remember when Intuit made Quicken and that was it? I don't even know what kind of company they are anymore. Like LG in my house, Intuit seems to touch everything on my computer.
