Good Web Stats Software

What is a good free real time web stats software or service ? I'm currently using AWstats and couple other simple tools in Cpanel.
Tks

Re: Good Web Stats Software

Google Analytics is our top choice as well.

The included free options work great for basic web stats if you don't run much online marketing. (AWstats, Webalizer, Analog) If you want to track your Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising campaigns, shopping cart or dig deeper into your website stats, then Google Analytics is the way to go. (Deeper stats like: how long visitors stay on pages, what navigation route do people take, track banner ad and PPC campaigns)

Its not free, but Mint is another great option for some people. If you are looking for a webstats option that you actually install on your website server and you need a lot of flexibility, give Mint a look:
http://www.haveamint.com/

Mint has a huge following and tons of optional plugins.

However Google Analytics is SO MUCH easier to get started. Yes, you can run both at the same time if you like.

Can you match up the Ip address with the amount of time spent per page with google? For example, if Mary from newtown came to my site could I track where she went on the site. I can not find how to do this.

You can with http://www.web-stat.com/
That inexpensive little program has been amazing, we have been using it for 2 years now.
A customer emails or calls,
we go to where they have been in the website and for how long
and then we contact them.

If they have just been in the home page and just called
is different than reading every single testimonial, looking at Eco paints etc.

It sounds like you've got your system down pat! But how do you know what their IP is if you get a call or email? I know you can have them fill out a webform that would then email you their IP. Unless maybe you don't get many hits and you can guess their IP.

That web-stat.com service looks pretty good. There are TONS of good options out there. The trick to tracking individual people is learning what their IP address is.

There are some really advanced tools that have you send out direct mail advertising with unique website URL's on every piece. Then when a visitor visits the unique URL (e.g. www.domain.com/133112) the database installed on your website matches the unique URL to the contact information (name, address, phone, etc) of the visitor. The caveat is... those systems are expensive.

Sounds like George Z's solution works very well.

We have used StatCounter with much success was well. It has decent visitor tracking by IP as well. Their free solution includes the IP tracking.

Yes. They usually only require that you include a small line of code on each page of your website. If your site is built with good structure, that might mean only adding the code to one page that is included on all your pages (which is how our sites are generally created).

You can usually run as many stat systems as you like. I wouldn't get carried away. The more you add, the greater the possibility of short delays in your page load times for your visitors. Every time a visitor views a page, the code you have on the page calls out to the stat service.

If you need any specific help, PM me and I can point you in the right direction. Or, just post here.

Re: Good Web Stats Software

Derick,
This is where a visitor has been:

1 ecopainting.ca 22 seconds
2 ecopainting.ca/exterior_painting.html 12 seconds
3 ecopainting.ca/deck_staining.html 24 seconds
4 ecopainting.ca/contact.html 2 minutes and 15 seconds
5 ecopainting.ca/index.php?cmd=contactus&msg=60106&send=1&staticid= 20 10 seconds
6 ecopainting.ca 2 seconds
7 ecopainting.ca/deck_staining.html 1 minute and 45 seconds
8 ecopainting.ca/contact.html 7 seconds
........
.........
..........

You can tell she contacted us by:
ecopainting.ca/index.php?cmd=contactus&msg=60106&send=1&staticid= 20 10 seconds

Now, it is as simple as matching the above to the time of the e-mail
The phone calls are an educated guess, but we mostly get e-mail requests.

We average about 100 visits a day and 5-7 requests a day,
so it is not that difficult to track them.

Re: Good Web Stats Software

George,

That looks like a great system of qualifying your website generated leads.

That also makes me wonder if a more advanced webform could send you that same information within the email you get. Wouldn't that be convenient. (gears turning...)

I'll look into creating something like that. Heck, maybe there is already something like it out there.

Google Analytics is still a good tool for you to use being it's FREE, so don't pass it up.

It works similar to what you describe and I think i may wind up using it on my website. Im currently using it somewhere else to test it out.
