Five Digit Text Number

I have to admit, I was dubious about texting, back in 2005 or so. But, it's here to stay. I don't understand all the details, as I see there are short codes that can be used to broadcast a "special".

That's not what I am looking for. I would like to get FLASH or HVAC as a number. The theory being, the furnace / appliance breaks down, and they can send a text directly FLASH, instead of a ten digit number.

Anybody aware of anything something close to this?

Re: Five Digit Text Number

As you note, short codes are primarily used for outgoing marketing, but the mechanism is the same for what you want. Far as I know, it's done via a third party platform for a fee (of course).

Here's just one of those:

Don't know, but I suspect you'd have to be doing some pretty serious volume for it to be cost-effective.

Re: Five Digit Text Number

I went to the link. Tried a test run that did not go through. It may be something more spendy than I wish. I am now trying to figure out how much it cost. Maybe somebody will call me with some helpful information.

It's interesting to see how much texting has played a role in our business operations.

Re: Five Digit Text Number

a short code is going to cost you $1000 a month. Common words like roofer are taken. Words like hvac as you suggested are not viable because they have to be 5 or 6 characters long. You can fnd and lease a short code here:

Good news: Flash is still available.
Bad News: Flash is still available.

$1,000 a month? Maybe peanuts if this was a national outfit. But, Daiiiing. Thats about half the cost of one of my work vans.
