Excavation Productivity Software

Does anyone have a spreadsheet or know of any existing software that can give rough estimates of excavator productivity depending on bucket size, soil type/conditions, etc? Bonus points if it can do more complicated modeling based on task (digging basements, driveways of X slope, etc.)

I'm attempting to streamline a realistic estimate for the number of machine hours based on a grading plan vs. initial topography survey.. AutoCAD RevIt can calculate the amount of cut/fill needed based on those, but, looking to take that a step further.

The idea is to get a rough estimate of hours for future (larger) projects as a "check" to make sure that our estimates are correct (we are getting into site work, it is/will be only our own projects (spec houses, etc.))

Thanks.

Re: Excavation Productivity Software

The best predictor of future performance is looking at past performance. We charge labor to cost codes related to certain types of excavation and at the end of each job we know how many yards were excavated, how many man hours it took, so our productivity rate man hours / per yard is established. Track this on multiple jobs and you soon develop a cost history very beneficial for future estimating.

If you just want some ballpark numbers you can purchase the RS Means books for estimating.
