Drawing Simple Plans - Downloads?

I just need a simple program where I can draw walls, doors/windows, etc - does not have to be super high tech or exact.

When I apply for a permit, I usually just draw up my 'specs' on a piece of notebook paper. not very professional.

Sketchup may be more than I need. just a simple DIY program

anyone??

Sketchup would be perfect for what you are doing!

Are you just needing 2d drawings?

Something I did in 3 min, no joke.

Re: Drawing Simple Plans - Downloads?

I don't hardly use sketchup as much as I should. I've veered a little in the new field I am in. Both Cole and I use very expensive BIM software, benefiting us in that drawing he showed above would take seconds.

I don't want to assume much, but I have found some cheap alternatives out there if you are interested. Not sure if you are looking for something for free, cheap, or if you are used to AutoCAD or have tried anything at all.

http://www.eland.org.uk/pages/Misc/cadnotes.html

If you are looking to purchase an inexpensive CAD program, then I personally tried ProgeCAD and found that it is very similar (almost exact) to full AutoCAD ($4000) for $300. ProgeCAD Smart is free, but I can't seem to find the link for it.

Alibre design is free and a decent CAD program.

Autodesk Inventor LT is free also, but a strange looking CAD interface. Might be difficult to learn.

SketchUp is very, very easy to learn though and I'll assume you have found what you are looking for. Just trying to give you options. It's a world chock full of AutoCAD knockoffs.

Re: Drawing Simple Plans - Downloads?

many many thanks framerman/Cole

i'm gonna spend some time with sketchup this afternoon, but i like the options you're giving me

i know at some point i'll probably break down and buy some expensive software, but i'm not there yet.

for this project, all i need is an 'overview' of the floor plan (ext walls only), because I just need to show the windows and doors, for the permit on a window change-out.

Cole, framerman - i really appreciate you helping a brother out - maybe when I learn a thing or two, I can help you out
