Another Website Review.

Can you all take a look at our new website:

www.yourhandymansite.com

It is under construction as we speak, it is live though and brought in 3 jobs last Friday.

We have not completed the entire proofreading and punctuation, it is being done now. Please give any suggestions to improve. I need to get everything wrapped up ASAP.

$10.00 @ Godaddy. They are still out there, you just have to be creative and grab something you like as soon as you know it is available.

I made the mistake of searching for several names, then decided I liked one that I had previously entered, went back to get it and it was gone. Could be a coincidence or something else, but I grabbed this as soon as I thought of it.

Thats a good one, I've spent some time myself looking, needle in a haystack. I came up with nobullremodeling.com. Very simple page up, going to try a little test marketing with using it as a business name before I spend time and money building it. Hope that one works well for you!

Re: Another Website Review.

The page it's self looks good. I would consider revising your keywords. You have a few that a a bit to broad for your area. The Keywords "plumber, painters ext (I don't want to give all of them away)" you should make them a bit more area focused. The competition for those key words is huge. Most likely you will never post highly for those words. Obviously those are terms that will be input by people across the county. A painting job in Boise probably would not be of interest to you.

Your on the right path with putting this together, A few tweaks and you could make this a very successful page!

Also just as a comment on the naming issue, I wanted to clear up what allot of people don't understand, the costs. You can get your domain name for about 10.00 a year (actually if you get it from godaddy do a google search for "godaddy coupons" you can get them for about 7.50 a year. Always try to get a .com name and don't worry about all of the extentions. As a tip when grabbing names if you think of a name that you like but it is taken try putting "The" infront of your desired name. Obviously it has to make sence..in most cases it does.

Also remember that the name of the site (your domain name) is the most important thing that google looks at. For instance if you can get MiamiPlumber.com many people will do a seach for a miami plumber. You will come up above any one who has the key words "miami plumber". So just think about your purpose of the page and try to get that .com extention.

One more tip on cost if you are paying any more then say about 10.00 a month on hosting your paying too much. I have many many websites that are live right now. All together they only cost me 8.95 a month.

Those might be hard keywords on a national level, but if you optimize for local search it should be okay. Google is going to continue to show the local 10 pack before organic, as the year goes on they will show even more local results for broad terms. I would rather be in the top ten local A-J versus below the fold on the SERP in the organic.

Oh yeah did you me to spell modestoa handyman in your keywords? I think it might be incorrect.

I think your site looks great. Did you have a pro outfit do it for you?

The only question I have is with the little blurb that says you guarantee your labor for 1 year. In California as a contractor we are on the hook for four years for any 'patent' defects including labor and for any 'latent' defects for ten years. Is it the same with handy-man services?

Andy.

Sweet, I might have to steal a few ideas from you...

Only 2 things caught my eye - no phone number at the top which is pretty standard - however, I think it might work best for you to just leave it off

While flipping through your pages - an article on hiring a handyman has this at the end

Quote:
Article Source: If you are looking for a Handyman, for any work around the house, make sure you go to LocalQuoter. They'll come up with three quotes for you, from local suppliers. So if you need a window quoter or maybe some really cheap double glazing stop by Local Quoter first to make sure you get the best quote possible.
I would lose that by re-writing the article or hiring it out, I didn't look at all the the pages, but the last thing you want is to hook people, and then say - hey you can try finding a cheaper service here

Re: Another Website Review.

I'll tell ya what, so far, I am really happy with Footbridge Media. We have a lot of work to do still, but I have been able to get almost everything I am after.

I actually was able to build the "header" and send it to Aaron, they of course fixed it up for me.

The rolling pictures, they pulled off for me with no problems.

I am still working on the Estimate & upfront pricing forms.

I know the phone number is not posted up top, I figure most of the people looking for services on the net, are savvy enough to find the number. Or they will just send the info through our contact sheet. Does this thinking make sense to you guy's with more years on your websites?

As far as the labor warranty, we do not have to warranty the same way an actual contractor does. That is part of the licensing requirements, you are bound by. Thanks for bringing that up, I am definitely going to double check this portion.

The articles section, I am not a fan of yet. They are not my articles, so I cannot change them. I already tried. I am working on some of my own articles to replace these.

I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR REVIEWS. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Go ahead and borrow, I am going to borrow RBS' pricing sheet, changed to meet the jobs I do. I am trying to develop an Estimate form along the lines of Mike Finley's.

Andy.

Andy,

I signed on with Footbridge Media. So far, I can highly recommend them. I have received 3 jobs and 7 requests for estimates in the one week since this "live" website has been up.

And it isn't even completed and I do not believe that it has been completely submitted to the search engines yet. They are a good value in my opinion, I needed a few different ads created, so I could tie into the website. No problem. They also sent me a Craigslist ad, that is far and above better than what I would compete with up here, just by asking.

The real value is the SEO I believe. Take a look at the service, I think you will find it to be almost pain free for the monthly fee.

P.S. I answered the other question above.

WWFB,

That is some nice work, I looked at your gallery. I feel you may benefit from a more detailed site.

Handyman, nice site, got good detail, etc.

Only thing is, I just find it too busy. Just my personal opinion, I like websites to be well organized with their points made clear and easy. I don't like looking all over the page at different things like internet specials here, up here other stuff, text and photos on the left, banners and button everywhere. There are 15 links alone running along the bottom of your banner...

But hey, I guess it works. My site is the polar opposite to yours but I still get 95% of my leads from my website at the moment.

Thanks for the compliment.

To be honest Winchester, I like your site a lot. I would build a site just like yours if I knew how. It is what I envisioned originally.

Then I got to thinking, it is about the bulk of the people that come to the site, what are they thinking or expecting to see in a site? I honestly didn't know and that is why I turned to Footbridge. I figured, they only do contractor sites, they specialize in SEO, and they have a lot of satisfied clients, including one who's opinion I value very much.

Again, I dig your site, the simplicity and elegance is great, but I got my butt kicked trying to do it on my own and feel that Footbridge is getting it right for me.

Thanks, everyone, for your input.

I'm sure they know what they're doing and the content probably is well-loaded with keywords, etc. And likely to generate lots of leads.

I wish all the best to you
