All In One Printer Recommendations

I've been an HP man since the 70s but have had it with my All in One printer that is about a year old. I need to replace it. I'm looking in the $200-$300 range need color printing, scanning and fax, an all-in-one. That doesn't use ink like my truck uses gas.
What are you guys using and how do you like it. Cost per sheet type of thing along with quality and dependability.
Thanks

Wish I could help Paul, but I'm in the same boat. I bought a high-end HP all in one myself, and the thing sucks after only 9 months. Jams all the time, prints like crap 'occasionally', etc. I'm ready for a better one too.

Well that just proves that HP has issues. Actually I wrote to the President earlier to explain my frustration with the printer. We will see what if anything he has to say.

Re: All In One Printer Recommendations

Me, too. I had an HP all-in-one and had problems from day one, not the least of which was not being able to refill the overly-expensive cartridges. I also had problems with paper feed - mostly due to a roller that would get a little dusty and not move the paper. I finally broke down and bought a Lexmark, but it hasn't been a lot better. No problems whatsoever with paper feed. Ink cartridges are cheaper but impossible to refill because the electronics won't let you. It's slower than the HP, but was much cheaper.

If I found a company that would supply a printer that had refillable cartridges it would be a big influence in my next purchase.

Before the HP, I had a Brother - that was a joke. It had four cartridges, all with teensy tubes running to a printhead. When one of those plugs, just throw the whole unit away. That one made about a month or two before I junked it.

I have old HP printers that still work like a charm. Too bad the company got greedy after H & P croaked.

Re: All In One Printer Recommendations

I just trashed the last of 3 HP printers. My 5740 was pretty good, but the feed problems were very bad. I had a 1400 (cheapie) all-in-one(non-fax) that I bought while on the road and nothing else was available. It was reasonable, but it also had feed problems.

In my experience, the HP feed problems are worst when you add one stack to another, have high humidity or thick stock. Forget about any reliability with envelopes or many good labels. The only way CD labels would work was forgetting about the "good" avery labels and going to the cheap OfficeMax labels.

Rather than wasting any more ink on HP cartridges when it got low, I bought a Canon MP470 all-in-one (non-fax). The printing quality is not that much better, but I have had no jams and the scanner is OUTSTANDING because of the high resolution. It is so good that I am starting to rescan my collection of over 2000 genealogy photos. - Well worth thelow price ($79.95 on sale at Best Buy) because it almost is a year old model, but still current.

Re: All In One Printer Recommendations

I went with a color laser printer Konica Minolta and I love it. I was using a scanner to make copies when I needed to (rare) but I got mad at the scanner the other day and beat the hell out of it till it broke. I will probably get a cheap all in one for the few times I need to make copies. But the bulk on the laser is the way to go.

Re: All In One Printer Recommendations

I just have a lexmark all in one that I bought about a year ago. So far no complaints for the few times that I need to scan or copy something. I'm actually going to for the first time to get new cartridge's that just tells you how often I dont' use it lol, but like I said it works for what I need it for.

Re: All In One Printer Recommendations

Well I've gone the cheap route for a few years and broke down last year after looking in my junk closet that had 3 broke dick all in one's that I had purchased and didn't last very long.

Soz I went and bought a Brother MFC 8460N. It's a bit more expensive but it's a great All in One and it connects to my router so it's networked. I've had it for about a year now with no troubles. Prints fast, scans fast and copies fast.

Re: All In One Printer Recommendations

I too had an HP all-in-one machine, but it was a piece of crap too. I would avoid them at all costs. I replaced it with a Brother 7820N black-and-white laser all-in-one unit. I have had it for about a year and a half and it has performed flawlessly.

I don't know about the color laser all-in-ones, but I have two other Brother printers and they have performed flawlessly as well.

HP sucks.

I still have an Hp all in one and hate it. I also use a brother 7820 for black and white and like it better.

Re: All In One Printer Recommendations

Well, I did not go the laser route yet. I hope the HP stuff does not turn out to be true of all of their products.

Last week, I just bought an HP OfficeJet Pro L7580 for $ 299.00 at Best Buy.

Most everyone talked Lasers down for photo printing, so I went this route instead.

As long as the ink does not need to be replaced every stinking week, I will be more than happy. I go through alot of ink and do some pretty good sized print jobs.

Currently, I print out all of the estimating photos for each roof I measure and also the progress photos on smaller thumbnail size for the HO's to review the job progress.

That link that Kgmz provided had more information from him than anything I got from any printer comparison website.

Re: All In One Printer Recommendations

Well after I posted this original question I wrote an E-mail to the President CEO or HP. It took a few days for anything to come back but I got an e-mail stating it had been forwarded on to their Customer Escalation team for review. I received a call from them yesterday. I did not want to go through any more trouble shooting on the printer and stated that. The rep decided to replace the printer, and give me an upgrade at the same time. I agreed. I now have a Office jet Pro L7680. From what I see it is top of the line. She is also setting up an extended warranty for me. Time will tell how well it holds up.
Just goes to show that contact the right people sometimes helps.
