Who got Contractor License from RME / RMO (Responsible Managing Employee / Officer)

Hello All, I am trying to get my California c33 contractors license through either a Responsible Managing Employee or Officer. Please discribe how it worked for you. What route did you take (rme/ rmo)? did you have to give up part of the company to the new person? Does this relationship really work well? Do you regret anything?

Thanks, Ken

I just started a company in California using someone I know as an RMO. The RMO has to own at least 20%. He can still use his own license himself, but there's a limit and maybe that's it - so he can't be an RMO for another company. He already had his license and it went smoothly.

I knew the guy before and it's working fine. He's not *just* an RMO. He's a full partner and we're working together. I will be getting licensed in my own name as well soon. I hope.

Yes, he can be an RMO on up to 3 corp licenses as long as he holds 20% ownership in each corp.

If you need help when you apply for your own license or to become the qualifier on the current license, let me know if I can be of service.

License Guru:

I want to make sure I understand this (above):

If I have a Corp and am the RMO for my own, I can go work as an RMO for another Corp in which I have 20% stake or better; At that new corp, I help the Corp qualify for a new license # (me as qualifier) or does my number get used from my personal corp?

How would this work is all above is the same, but my license was a sole prop and not a corp?

thanks a bunch!

Pat

Hi Pat. Thanks for the question.

Yes

You would qualify the new license. Your current corp # would not be used.

If you have 20% ownership there is no effect on the sole owner license. If you have less than 20% you would have to inactivate the sole owner license.

You are welcome a bunch.
