Re: What's Your System On Writing Bids?

if you keep you price database as a separate file kept in your master directory then when you update the price it updates ALL of your previous spreadsheets. it makes it a little harder to work with but its worth it.

When I get a call from a potential customer I make a directory with their name ALL info related to them goes in that directory including the price estimate sheet. But if my price database is saved in that file then I have to update THAT file when prices change instead of just my master file. So right now I have a bunch of designs pre drawn and estimated at any time I can pull them up or previous projects and have an up to date price in the time it takes to load the file.

Once you've submitted a quote you want to protect that sheet so it can only be manually updated. You'd want your labor rates on a remote sheet too.
Many of the dedicated estimating database programs work just about like Excel with vlookup, just make it a bit easier to keep your formulas and your worksheets and your database listings separated. I find the presentation copy of the quote is what's hard to get right in Excel.
