What To Use For Accepting Credit Cards?

I'm having trouble finding a good way to accept cc's.

My bank doesn't have any options for me as a "seasonal business" with no real office.

It would be alot easier for me to just accept credit cards and I think I'd get more business.

What do you use?

Or is it worth the hassle?

For us, it's definately worth it! We are able to process credit cards through QuickBooks. It's a little pricey, but well worth the convenience!

Re: What To Use For Accepting Credit Cards?

Lisa,

Thanks for the tip on QB.

Seems convenient, yet possibly a bit pricey.

With the work I do, it would be nice if there was a merch. service just for contractors via cell phone or something.

I've looked into a few of those phone-based ones but they all seem to have limitations (minimums, processing limits, etc.).

I'll keep looking...

Construction comapnies carry a high risk for some reason. Because of this when I was signing up I found it hard to find someone willing to pick me up. I am with Card Services International and have had alot of problems with them. Mike Finley has had nothing but good things to say about them.

Anyways there must be a dozen threads about us discussing credit card acceptance and merchant account providers, just search this forum.

I'm getting a check for $3200 for some class action lawsuit against card services. I like them even better now.

Hammerman - look to anywhere other than a bank. Like all banking related issues the banks are the most conservative, the soonest to say no institution you will ever deal with. There are plenty of 3rd party processors that will be happy to help you.

Grumpy, Mike, thanks for the advice.

Yeah, I found out pretty quick that a bank definitely isn't the way to go.

I'll start looking into some of the smaller companies like Mike mentioned.

Duh - I never thought of that and I've been using them for years for EBay! So you just give the customer your PP address and the amount to pay, huh? Great!!
