Re: Unwanted Faxes

I tell folks who may want to send me a fax to call first so I can turn the fax/phone to the fax mode, then turn it right back off. No more fax spam.

How to deal with the BS ones:

Take a piece of black construction paper, hit 100 copies and fax it back them. They'll get the hint quickly.

Aren’t we in the age of the computer?

Most, if not all, copiers are all-in-one where you can scan something and then email it where the receiving party can then print it or store it in a file on their computer.

I don't understand how that addresses the question:

There are plenty of subs / contractors etc... that don't use email, don't know what a PDF is, there are others who don't own a fax either, and they are about $99.00 aren't they and have been around for what 20 years?

Re: Unwanted Faxes

You can get fax machines that block all numbers except ones you allow. This way you have to enter all the numbers into the machine that you will allow to send faxes.

Only thing you need is a caller-id feature from your phone company

If it's a business line you can't sign up on the "do not call list" I believe.

Re: Unwanted Faxes

my favorite ones are wrong number faxes. I get a medical report from one of the hospitals in town once a month. Every time, I call and let them know, they will look into it and are so happy I've told them....next month, same thing.

Your right, me bad

Genecarp - you might also remove the Fax number from the the white pages, yellow pages & your web site. A lot of these places that send them simply use bots to query for them via the Internet. Maybe just hand them out on your business cards.

Re: Unwanted Faxes

It is illegal to send faxes like you speak of, I have done it in the past without realizing it and was threatened with legal action. When I looked into it it was punishable by 500 bucks per offense. I scoured the computer, bluebook, chamber of commerce websites looking for them and have a list of over a 1000. And I got some work to when I did it. It was well worth my time, it just to bad I was breaking the law.

Fax Numbers and the National Do-Not-Call List
"Registering a home phone number on the national Do-Not-Call list prevents only telephone solicitations directed to that number, not fax advertisements to your home or business fax number."

Unwanted Faxes

Many times you will see a 1-800 or 1-888 number on the bottom for you to take your name off the mailing lists that are selling your fax number. It takes some time, but only a minute each time, but kind of like unsubscribing to email, your faxes will become less and less. Phil

Re: Unwanted Faxes

Unsolicited faxes are illegal by both State and Federal Law.

The best way to not get any is to not publish your fax number. Don't give it especially to anyone other than customers or vendors.

BBB, Chamber, Business Card, Letter Head, Yellow Pages, all Advertising, emails, web site, etc. are verboten.

If you publish it some nut case is gonna send you stuff.

I once got a email from McGraw Hill wanting to sell me some book. They provided a 800 number for orders to be faxed back. I scanned the order form after I wrote on it with magic marker to take my number off the list. I tuned the scan into a .bmp file and faxed it back to them. It sent 32 pages and took 23 minutes on the 800 number. Broke up the page like a large grid. They called the next day to confirm that they were getting the right number out of their broadcast fax machine. I think they got the point.

I get one about every 2 months or so, and when I do I make a very quick call or fax. Sometimes I get some idiot that thinks that they got permission from someone in my office. When I explain that I am the only one in my office they hang up. The faxes stop.

Have a good day.

Les

Re: Unwanted Faxes

Is thier a grace period for these people? I sat down one day and called every number on every fax to be removed from thier list, a month later they are slipping into the mix again. One of the companies uses 6 different numbers all which send faxes. Im pissed its wasting my ink and paper. Its at a point hwere I turn the paper backward to use both sides.

Well if you are asking them nicely don't expect much. If they are local, document and file suit under your state law. That will get their attention not to mention it could put $500 in you pocket.

Your other choice is to get a cheap PC and set up a Fax Modem. Program software not to print and then print what you need. Still a PITA but does save paper and ink.

I had one guy that complained to me that MY returned FAX request to remove my number along with a page showing the Federal Law chapter and verse was a unsolicited fax. Then he hung up the phone. Haven't got a fax from him since.

Have a good week.
