To Those Who Keep Customer Lists...
We are very lucky when it comes to our customer base. I'd say more than 90% are reasonable, decent people. We keep their names on a database and send out periodic mailings. Why do I feel bad when I boot out the (rare) name of a person who has been a PITA?? I don't want to be unprofessional, so should I just suck it up and mail to these people too? What do you guys do with these?

I see no reason to ask for trouble if youve had it once that is a lesson learned.

Re: To Those Who Keep Customer Lists...
I am just getting finished with one myself. As soon as their (LONG overdue) check clears their name will be but a short memory and I will have nothing to do with them again.
I hardly consider this unprofessional. Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice, shame on ME!

Re: To Those Who Keep Customer Lists...
Doesn't everyone keep a customer list?
True story... A customer was a great customer, we cleaned his gutters big whoopie! But he called us to fix his roof, which is why we clean gutters, hoping for the upgrade. So I go out to fix his roof, but nobody is home. They knew they needed to be home since the back gate is locked and they needed to be home the first time. I left a business card saying "Sorry I missed you, call me to reschedule". His wife called me 15 minutes later, I had already called my next customer and was on my way there. I explained to her the soonest I could come back is tomorrow. Her husband called me ranting and raving and said "I demand you return immediately." I asked him "Who do you think you are to talk to me like that? You knew someone needed to be there, this is not my fault but yours. I should be screaming at you." Long story short this moron sent us an email though our web site looking for more work... I have to believe he forgot who we are. I keep my database in quickbooks, and what I do is make any PIA customer marked as inactive. I also have the mailing address part removed from field in the database so even if it slips through there is no mailing address for anything on a list to be mailed. Let me guess this was inspired while doing your christmas card list? |

Re: To Those Who Keep Customer Lists...
I keep a nice list and send out Christmas cards to the clients who purchased from me that year.
I send one out every year to selected clients. I send out a THANK YOU one year after the purchase to remind them of my commitment to service. Please call if needed. Easy to do, and bumped me up another 20 K for the year

Re: To Those Who Keep Customer Lists...
I seldom dump people from my list but this year, one is surely to be excluded.
OOPS! Just remembered another one.

Re: To Those Who Keep Customer Lists...
Just sent out my christmas cards to my customers (got two calls for further work already!) but definitely left one guy off the list. Someone else is welcome to him. Rich.
