Taking The Plung

I have been working a full time job(3-12hr days) for the last 5 years and have been running my own construction company, mostley painting and basement finishing. But its getting to hard to do both, so im going to quit my full time job and go full time as contractor, I have many conections in all trades and feel confindent in my knowledge and ability to make it on my own, just wanted any tips or good advice that you guys might have.

Thanks

Congratulations.

Get an attorney and an accountant. Create a proper legal entity... blah, blah, the same old stuff.

Basically just do it right from the start.

As far as advice- I'll tell you what 99.9% of contractors won't follow - which is focus. Don't try to do everything, focus on one thing and do it better than anybody else. If you want to be a painter, be a painter, if you want to remodel basements, then remodel basements. If you want to do both do one first, then after you are great at it, start a second company to do the other thing.

Just get get rolling--don't try to have everything perfect before you jump. You will fill in the gaps and tools you need as you go. Before you know it you'll be busier than ever--thinking you should've done it sooner.
