Sublets
Hi all,
This post stims from a post I wrote under "stripeing" in the paint forum. I have never subbed anything, I'm a paint contractor, and have had folks that want wallpaper hung, which I don't do, but I have wallpaper hanging in all my marketing. Up until this point, I have just referred all the wallpaper jobs to a paperhanger here that I use. We had a gentlemens agreement that I would refer paper to him, and he would refer painting to me, however after referring several jobs to him, I have yet to recieve one referral, so I figure now its time to make a buck on these paper jobs. The problem is, I have never done it, so I have no idea how to start. If I should run across a paper job, I dont know how to bid it, so I guess the paper guy would need to go out and look at the job, and I guess I would need some sort of agreement between he and I, I just dont know how its done. If you guys could give me some ideas on how to sublet I would appreciate it...thanks |

Re: Sublets
Hey Don,
Why don't you just go ask the paper guy what he wants per Sq '. If you think that will cause tension, then tell him that this particular customer wants to work with just you on this project and you will need his sq ' price. Then you will know what this guy needs to do the job, add your margin and your set.. It may not be that simple in your line of work, just an idea. Good luck, Flimmer |

Next job hire that guy who you have been giving the referrals and sub it to him. Or ask your painitng b uddies if they do paper and sub the job to them.
Since it's your first one tell them to bid the job for you and then add on your %. After you have done a few you can begin bidding the jobs yourself. |

Re: Sublets
There's actually a good chance they'll show you how to bid it
I've done that with some buds on stuff I get asked for, but don't really do Now I tell the customer, yup I do that and give them a price Call up my "specialist", he does the work Vice Versa too...he'll bid a job knowing I'll end up doing it But I showed him how to bid it OK We have no problems making sure the other gets a decent cut when they "sub it out"...hey not having to do the legwork, or paperwork, is worth it...even if they mess up a little and you're working a little short (which doesn't happen a lot...so far...lol) Not having to do the paper/leg-work...it's worth it |
