Subcontract Phrases
All of you guys and gals that subcontract your services, have you ever been told, "You have to take the good with the bad"?
How many have heard..."I'll make it up to you on the next job"? Any others you have heard??

Re: Subcontract Phrases
My favorites are,
"You'll have to wait until next Friday. All invoices have to be turned in by Wednesday to be paid that following Friday." In plain English means, "can I string you along for a week or two? I spent your money on a new ladder rack for my truck." "The bookkeeper is out this week. We'll get you a check as soon as she gets back." I guess the checkbook was sick too. "What's on your schedule for Monday morning? I just got this change order approved and..." and its 3:00 P.M. Friday afternoon... My electrical sub was asked to meet the plumbing inspector by another contractor because his boy had a t-ball game that afternoon. ![]() If I ever said any of this to one of our subs, I fully expect that to be the last time they would willingly work for us.

Re: Subcontract Phrases
Ugh...this thread has to bring back alot of bad memories for most everyone.
I thought about it for a minute and came up with a couple to add. Sure we pay a little less than the other company, but when we show you our super secret way to do it you will be so much faster you will make alot more money..(this from an owner who used to be a salesman talking to someone who has been an installer for ten years!!!) love this one too: Sure we only pay ***, but we have alot of work so you can keep busy and make as much as you want....(right..I can sit at home and be poor, why work 60 hours a week to accomplish the same thing) |

Re: Subcontract Phrases
How about...You should have a contingence fund to ensure you can pay your guy's on time... When the builder owed me $17,000 for nearly 3 1/2 mnths.
One of my guy's rented an apt from them and couldn't pay his rent . Last edited by B.D.R.; 03-24-2008 at 12:16 AM. Reason: additional info |
