Sub Framing Billing
I have recently started getting into doing some sub framing for GC's. Before I never had a set method for billing, it varied from person to person and depended on the job. I am going to be bidding a lot of sub framing this year and was wondering what is the norm as far as billing. Is a certain percent down normal or is payment due after stages? If so what stages? or is the norm payment after completion? It is just the labor as the GC is providing all materials, but it still would be nice to get at least a down payment especially if I do not know them very well. However I do not want that to be a reason not to hire me if the norm is different than that. Any comments would be very helpful.
Thanks |

Re: Sub Framing Billing
For framing i'd say a percent down, then the remainder due when the house passes framing inspection. This is whatever deal you workout with the GC. Maybe you'd want a percent down, then a weekly or bi-weekly draw, then the remainder at time of completion.
If it was just a small thing where'd you'd finish in a week or two, then maybe you'd just get paid at completion, but if you're going to be framing for a month or two, then maybe a draw or percent down is what you need to pay your guys every week. Ask for 20% down, what could he say, NO? You'll never get what you want unless you ask. Hope this helps. |

Re: Sub Framing Billing
The way that seems to be the norm around here (West coast of Canada) is that once the foundation is in you get paid. When you're ready for roof (truss delivery) you get paid. Once the back framing and facias are done you get paid.
That is all |
