Staying Organized While Trying To Run A Buissness

Hey guys,

Do any of you guys have trouble with keeping your tools organized? I am a general contractor and build several homes per year, I have a crew of 4 and myself. My company vehicle is a 3500 dodge dually and I can't stay organized with my tools. I do most of the work in a home with my own crew all I sub out is mechanical trades. I need so many tools in the course of a day that my truck bed stays completely full and most of my cab. Weather does much damage to my tools where they are in my truck bed. I was wondering what kind of technique do you guys have for organization and keeping your tools dry from the weather.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check out www.truckvault.com and www.leer.com they have all kinds of stuff to organize the back of a truck. AW Direct has some cool goodies for a truck too.

A trailer is a good place to put tools. But it does not matter how much room you have to store them if you do not take the time to do so.

My trailer starts out organized but gets more and more cluttered as the weeks go by. I know one contractor that start every Monday getting the trailer organized to start out his week. It does speed things up when you know right where your tools are. Good luck to you I feel your pain.

If you are organized, you are runing the business. if you are not organized the business runs you. Keeping track of tools is difficult when you have employees who use and lose them.

Sounds like maybe you need a trailer or a box truck. I don't think you need all your tools every day. Take what you need each day and leave the rest in your storage/warehouse. In addition each day at the end of the day you need to put the tools back neatly and don't just toss them into the back of the truck.
