Starting A Gc/trim Company
ive got a friend who is a fellow poster on the boards, and we do some work together every once and a while on our own time. we work great together. He's the lead carpenter for a production trim crew/ and previous framing crews, im a site foreman for a general contractor working in residential renos' with my personal focus on trim
He's looking to start up his own trim company, focusing on trimming buildings and some homes for higher end builders. Hes known by builders more so and myself by homeowners and bigger name residential reno companys along with various plumbing and electrical contractors who do private work on homes which then needs carpentry. so my name is passed along how risky is it getting into being a general business wise, we are both just about fully equipped for tools . minus larger access equipment ( ladders, staging) though easily rented. along with business license, gst, hst, company vehicles. how tough is it getting approved by a bank. |

Re: Starting A Gc/trim Company
I can't tell you how hard it is in Canada as I am no where even close to there. However, I would plan on doing a lot of homework, getting together a business plan, credit reports for both of you, & start working out a partnership agreement for starters.
Most banks won't even talk to you without a business plan & you are more than likely going to be financially liable until the company gets going. After you have both done all your due diligence / gotten your ducks in a row then you will know which way to go. There are plenty of posts on this site covering these topics & probably a few others I missed. Best of luck |

Re: Starting A Gc/trim Company
get use to hearing no. you may even have to look out side of banks for lending. I'm not sure how the banks up there are doing now, but any loan is near imposible in the states right now.
