Sponsers?

I am curious about any information about obtaining any sort of sponsership from a tool manufacturer or equipment manu. or anything of the sort. Maybe even a beta tester for companies new products. Does anyone have any experiance with something like this?

Re: Sponsers?

What would they stand to gain from "sponsoring" a contractor- is providing you with tools going to somehow result in them increasing their sales? Some manufacturers have co-op ad programs where they'll pay a part of the cost of any ads you place that have their logo in them, but other than that, I doubt you're likely to get anything from anyone unless you've got some sort of national exposure/recognition thats going to sell some product.

WRT beta testing, there's two groups that usually get to do that- authors who will write reviews for JLC, FHB, etc., and select contractors who live close to the company's R&D facility who are sometimes asked to field test products and provide feedback to the design team- I know several folks who do that for Bosch.

Re: Sponsers?

I took the ball out of their court to wait for them to decide who test a few products.

If I like a products attributes, and after I am comfortable recommending it, then I develop a a series of tests that proves that the product works as advertised, or even better. If it does not live up to its marketed performance levels, I send my test results and analysis and conclusions and possible changes that may be considered in the future to make it a better product.

I have only done this with a few products, but each time, I have received recognition for reaching out to them in one way or another. Sometimes, they send me their products for free to run additional tests with and others, they put my edited commentary intheir newsletters or website for a period of time.

Think what they want the targeted market to know about the benefits of their product if you want to establish some credibility. Then create a method of real world testing to authenticate their premise. Do comparitive analysis with similar products and how they performed.
