Is This A Scam? Opinions And Info Plz.

I just got a phonecall from a guy first asking me if I'm a Drywall contractor in the GTA, then he started with his telemarketing bit and I wanted to get off the phone right away until he told me he could get me first page on Google, Yahoo, etc.

I asked:
"Isn't that adword? Don't you have to go through Google, Yahoo etc. directly?"

He passed the phone off to his Manager/Supervisor.

The guy went on for 2 straight minutes basically saying:
1st page
$99/month
$150 every month afterwards
No Contract, No extra fees, No Cancellation cost..."We just go off your word"

"Try us out for a couple of months and if you're not happy just leave"

I told him I thought you had to bid for those ratings...then he mentioned the word "organic".

I said I know what that is...how many hits could they give me...He said 1.5 million a day

He was kind of rude, in the manner in which he spoke. I told him I'm interested in learning more so if he could give me a contact name and a phone number I might sign up next week. To which he said:

"What's going to change in a week?"

I said:

"I don't sign up for anything right there on the spot...for anything".

He goes:

"So if I call you up for a 100k Drywall job you're going to tell me next week?"

WTF?

"I said...yes! I have to undergo certain steps...plans, site visit, forms have to be filled out, a proposal signed, a contract drawn up and a deposit received".

He said:

"Well if you want to make some real money then call us when you're ready"

Then hung up on me as I was asking for the phone number.

I'm thinking...if they get $250 off each contractor in the GTA...that's a whole lot of money. There is no promise that they will actually do what they say...I mean...1.5 million hits/day? No contract? I smell a big scam.

What do you guys think?

The name of the company is Eboost Media. He also mentioned their sister company Gatehouse Media.

Opinions?

I hate hard pressure salesmen, and don't trust them. If they have something I might buy they don't need to strong arm me into it. I like your response to his "What's going to change in a week?" If he won't let you think about it and call HIM back, then it's a scam at some level.

Telemarketers, gotta love'em for trying.

That has to be the worst job in the world. Hundreds of hangups, rejections, PO'd answerers for the occasional hit.

I'm in the 'hangup' class, don't say anything.

If I am not too busy, I lead them on THEN hang up on them, and if I am feeling frisky AND not busy, I lead them on, F with them, and make them hang up on me. Caller ID is a wonderful thing, though, let me tell you. If I am busy and the caller ID is "private" or "out of state" or any type of bank name other than my own, I simply don't answer.

Re: Is This A Scam? Opinions And Info Plz.

HAHAHAHA...I should have done this earlier.

I went to google and typed in "internet marketing"...click go.

1st page...nothing.
2nd page...nothing
3rd...nothing
NOTHING....about eboost media.

Then I tried "Seo"
Same story

They are nowhere to be found

How Ironic that a company that promises 1st page...can't even get themselves listed...anywhere.

I got to give it to them...imagine how many suckers fall for this. They don't need repeat customers...just the 99 bucks off each one will do.

You can set up a web-site for $20/month...design it yourself...Call it Eboost...Man oh man...I should have been a scammer

I should open up my own version and call it Reboost.

Re: Is This A Scam? Opinions And Info Plz.

sounds like the same exact call that i got a few months ago. same deal except he was going to give the first month free. I also said i would not sign up on the spot and asked them to email me the info. Well i never got the email.

I did ask how they got my number and they wouldnt say. I assume off of CL b/c ever since i put an add on I have been getting these types of calls.

I got another call from some guy asking me to sponsor a football league. I pay so much and they put my ad on " posters" for this football fundraiser or something. Funny thing is this was about 3 months ago and it isnt football season anyway. I also asked him where he got my number and he told me off of CL. After he was done pitching his scam i replied, " Well seeing how it is Febuary, and football doesnt start untill September you might want to find another sucker for your scam."
At this time he was speechless and hung up the phone. He didnt even say god bye or thanks for your time.

Hi, not a contractor but a DJ an webmaster who just got a cold call from these guys. I searched and found your post so I though to register and put my 2 cents in here....

When I talked to them, one lady was helpful but could not answer questions from a web pro such as myself so she put me on the phone with an individual (their tech expert) who was extremely pushy and rude and hung up as soon as I started asking questions that let him know I knew what I was talking about.

Stay away from this kind of promotion push. Work with a webmaster that knows how to do it. No, I do not want any work, thanks. I am focused more in other areas, just want to help others avoid the BS. Take care and safe surfing!!

I have gotten calls like this which is odd because I have no idea where they got my number. I don't advertise. All my work comes from the same three builders. It was the same story. I started asking them for web sites while I had him on the phone. I told him it all sounded great and I needed a address in order to send a check. I said I would send the first check after that I would set up payment over the phone. He gave me a p.o. box I said thanks thats all I need I will forward the info to my brother who works for the F.B.I. so he could pass it on to the proper authority regarding scam artists. He hung up.
