Report Writer For Quick Books?

Is there a 3rd party of some other software add on for Quickbooks for more robust report writing?

I was doing our WC and insurance audits this week and wanted to simply pull a report off of quickbooks, print it out and submit it instead of filling in their forms manually.

Couldn't do it. I struggled off and on for at least an hour discovering that quickbooks sucks at reports. For example - One of the small issues was being able to make a report that showed only the totals paid to a sub-contractor instead of having to show every individual check paid to them.

Anyways, this is only going to get worse and be more of a hassle next year as we grow, so I'd like to nip it in the bud.

The QB reports are not good, however you should be able to filter for totals only (I will check with my book keeper in the Am and let you know). tell me exacly what you need and I will ask Her how to get the reports.

I wouldnt be to Quick to jump ship on QB, we did. I was talked into going with peachtree by my book keeper and now we are in the process of switching back, love spending money. further more, now QB 04 contractors edition does not support the payroll service/tax tables updates and I have to buy the 07version update. more $

Luckily I recently joined a new site and get a discount on QB products along with other items I buy everyday. see the link below.

Far as I know your audit shoulnt have been a problem. the auditor comes into my office and does it in about an hour. so i know the info is in there, you just need to know where to go.

Joe,

Not going to jump ship over this, believe me, just want a nice easy method. My audits so far have been by mail and fax so giving them what they want on paper is avoiding even having to meet with them. I'd like to keep it that way.

I need QB prem. contractors edition. we went down that road years ago. the regular QB does not work for the contracting business. i shouldnt say it doesnt work, it does not support the thing I need and require as a contractor.

Mike, tell me what reports you needed to put together for them and I will ask my book keeper how to generate them.

Re: Report Writer For Quick Books?

It's not the type of reports, its the format of them. I can get the info out of quickbooks, but quickbooks won't allow me to format them exactly as I want.

Appreciate the offer, but it would be too tedious to try to describe exactly what I want.

Right now I just have to copy it over to excel and edit it that way. It's not a big deal, but I'm not a big fan of any work-a-rounds what so ever if I can avoid them.

Run a 1099 Report same as you would at years end but change the dates to reflect the time span your needing. It will give you totals only. You can also filter it out to individual subs or all subs in the time frame.

Wouldn't that skip all the subs that are corporations and aren't flagged for 1099s?

Hey Mike,

There is an ODBC driver available that allows you to pull data into almost any database or report writing software (Crystal Reports, etc). You could even pull it into Excel and manipulate from there. It is at qodbc.com

Hey thanks Kim, they have another product there called QReportBuilder. I just got done watching some of the videos they have on it, it is robust to say the least! This would do anything you wanted to do with Quickbook data. It might take me a month to learn it though!
