Remote Connecting To Home Computer

Hello everyone,
I was not sure where exactly I should be posting this question, but this seemed the most pertinent.

I'm looking for a way to access my home computer from the job site via a PDA. I know there are ways to do it, but I have no idea as to where to look as I have never been computer 'smart'. Basically I want to be able to retrieve data from my PC while at work.

Thanks

Brian

3 little letters vpn.

Ofcoarse you need a static IP to accomplish this. gotomypc also works fine depending on how many people you want to connect. If you are trying to setup your whole office and sales staff to be able to connect then gotomypc probably isn't the answer. If it's just you it will probably be the simplest answer.

Re: Remote Connecting To Home Computer

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like the VPN thing might be difficult to setup? I did go to the gotomypc website and it seems like it would pretty easy to use. I googled them as well and it seems like they have gotten some good reviews. One question though: One of the paid listings was for LogMeIn, do any of you know how it compares?

Thanks again for the help.

Like I said if it's just you then the gotomypc is the way to go!

Never heard of logmein. Gotomypc is pretty much the industry leader.

I'll ask Ol'#2 when she gets home.

I know that there are a number of ways to do it at different pricing levels. You can go through your cellphone but that chews up minutes and puts you on a different rate, usually. If you are in a city, you can generally find a cell somewhere to hookup to. You can also go sat. which will work anywhere on the planet, haul out the BIG checkbook.

I am just parroting overheard conversations. You can do it from just about anywhere nowdays although we're still missing a military flight trainer.
