Question Quickbooks premier

Hi I am helping my husband set up his business. He recently just got the quickbooks premier and I am going through it and HOLY COW. He is very small and we don't have capital investment and we don't write business checks or have employees. The program seems to need a lot of information like that to run smoothly. It's the retail edition set up for construction. I don't know if there is a better program or edition we could use. Something more simpler that can keep records for taxes and do invoices! I noticed you can't even select cash payment when paying a bill. Do you guys have any input?

Get a business bank account and get a dictionary to see what capital investment is. Nevermind, get an accountant to explain how this all works for you.

Check out Quick Books Simple Start edition.

Or use something like MS Money, or Quicken.

Peachtree accounting is said to be fairly user friendly.

But best solution is like what Same Old said, pay an accountant for a couple hours, and he/she can set up what you have to run efficiently.

This is what I am using. Works fine for me since I am very small right now, no need for all the bells and whistles. I downloaded it for free from Intuit.

thanks to both you and prowallguy for your help!

Ive been tryin to get my wife to help me set up premier because
its been kinda hard for me to get it dialed. alot of it is over my head my wife use to do accounts payable so she is somewhat better equiped to help me but she said alot of what it needs to work smooth im not doing yet, ive used it for a few months but it was just to send invoices and keep a custemer data base.
the whole tax thing is all new for me and everything I do is still in cash/checks it seems like the premier is set up for the big dogs with crews and alot of subs!

please excuse my ****y spelling

Im downloading the simple start as I we speak so ill check it out!

I use the Premier Contractor Edition and it is confusing at first. You can practice with it setting up a practice company the just dink around with it tell you start to get the hang of it.

That program if used properly will be the backbone of your business. From it you can get all the information you need to ...

See if you are profitable
Keep track of all expenses
Compare numbers from year to year

I used to use my quick book program for keeping track of checkbook. I thought of it as secondary.

But then I realized that the money coming in and out of your business is the most important thing.

You need to know if you are profitable, Not only do you personally need to make money, but the business itselfs needs to make a profit. That way you can invest in the future growth of your business.
