Check your mail, I just got coupons from them. Sort of upset because I just bought the pro version a few months ago.

And about the coupons, don't worry about the expiration date because after they expire it won't be long and they will send you some more.

I purchased contractor version a month ago and really need some time to play with it because some things are set up a bit different than my 2003 pro version. At this point I really don't feel it was worth the extra $ but once I spend a little time with it maybe i'll change my mind.

Re: Quick Books Contractor Premium

I've been using premier contractor edition since 2004, pro in 2002-3, and basic before that...

I love the program, but honestly now that I've switched I can't remember what pro was like... If I remember, I'll post. All I can say is that I love my program, and wouldn't switch to anything else.

My accountant told me not to buy any QB's that Microsoft was coming out with an accounting program far superior to anything QB's has ever done, I have never used either but I think MSofts will be released pretting soon maybe with Window's Vista, it may have already been released.

Re: Quick Books Contractor Premium

I don't know why but I imagine the microsoft version having errors all the time that say "this microsoft accounting program has encountered a serious problem and needs to report this error, and you will never get it solved, and sorry about your luck" click "yes" to send error report now.

... hey, I could be wrong... Microsoft could have found a new way to make this program run perfectly error free, just like all the rest of thier programs?

... Truthfully, if someone else out there, used it for about 5 or more years, and didn't have any complaints - I'd try it.

Re: Quick Books Contractor Premium

I have been using Quickbooks Pro for about 10 years, Contractors edition for 2 years - but we just upgraded to regular Pro 2007.

For the extra 200.00 for the Contractors Edition I see absolutely no benefit. Pro 2007 is great - and we upgraded the payroll service to "enhanced payroll" - you can track Workmans Comp (assign your employees a WC classification to track your costing, and for audit time), and it also now allows your State tax forms, without enhanced it is just the Federal forms.

Did you ask your accountant why contractors over Pro? You can't even go by the comparison - QB is tricky - some of the features that it will say one version has you can do in others as well.

I personally don't think Contractors version is worth the extra money - no. You can get Pro for 180.00 at staples and I saw it at Costco for 160.00

Re: Quick Books Contractor Premium

Just this piece of nice news e-mailed to me tonight from Quickbooks.

SERVICE ALERT
If you are considering Windows Vista,
please note that QuickBooks 2006
and earlier versions may be
adversely affected.

Dear

You may have heard about the upcoming release of Microsoft's new operating system, Windows Vista. Microsoft has made significant changes to how software runs on Windows Vista.

I'm sending you this important service alert because you are using a 2006 or earlier version of QuickBooks software.

Since QuickBooks 2006 and earlier versions were developed
and released before the introduction of Windows Vista,
these versions may be adversely affected when used on
a computer running Windows Vista.

This will impact Simple Start, Basic, Pro, Premier, Payroll and Point of Sale, as well as other QuickBooks products and services. We recognize that your QuickBooks software is an important business tool and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO TO STAY UP AND RUNNING ON QUICKBOOKS

• If you do NOT upgrade to Windows Vista

No action is required. If you plan to stay with your existing Windows operating system (for example, Windows XP or Windows 2000), you can continue to use your current QuickBooks products.

• If you choose to upgrade to Windows Vista

We recommend that you use QuickBooks 2007 (and Point of Sale v6.0, if applicable). QuickBooks 2007 is the only version of the software built to run on the new Windows Vista operating system.

To learn more about your options for running QuickBooks products
on Windows Vista, please visit www.quickbooks.com/support/vista.
You'll find detailed instructions on how to use QuickBooks while
you consider the transition to Windows Vista.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you would like to send us feedback on QuickBooks and Windows Vista, please visit our Windows Vista Resource Center at www.quickbooks.com/support/vista.

Thank you for making QuickBooks a part of your business.

Sincerely,

Brad Smith
Senior Vice President, QuickBooks

Please print and save for your records.

Re: Quick Books Contractor Premium

Found this on a QB Q&A regarding vista:

Will my current version of QuickBooks (2007/2006/2005/2004) run on Windows Vista ™ Operating System ?

To determine whether Canadian QuickBooks can operate successfully with Vista, we conducted tests in various business scenarios; in these tests, we have found that the major functionality of the products run with Vista, however we have identified certain issues in using Canadian QuickBooks versions with Vista. Most users would consider these issues minor and we will be posting workarounds and solutions for these issues as they become available. We will continue testing to ensure we are aware of potential issues. Current updates and information can be found on our Web site.

Canadian versions of QuickBooks in 2007 and prior years were developed for Windows operating systems before Vista technology specifications were known. As such, Intuit Canada recommends using all versions of Canadian QuickBooks with the Windows XP operating system (or another older supported Windows operating system 98/ME/2000 etc).
As technology continues to advance, Intuit Canada remains committed to supporting small businesses throughout such change and transition periods.

Re: Quick Books Contractor Premium

Day, I have used Pro and Contractor's edition 2006.

The deluxe has a few more reports, and it's 'tailored' to the construction business (ra, right).

The most important part of setting up or using any software pkg is the Chart of Accounts. If you set that up properly and use it, you can track anything you want that involves money in the business.

I'd ask your acct. why he wants you to upgrade. What benefit he's looking for in this other edition that you don't already know about.
