Question About City Taxes...
Hey guys, I have a question about the way you take out for your employees' taxes. My current boss has all of his payroll taken care by his accountant and I just wonder if everyone does this. I work in different cities all the time (there are lots of close suburbs). I've had paychecks where I work in 5 different cities. So I get taxes taken out for each city. At the end of the year, I get my W-2 with like 10 different forms for me to file with different cities. The guy I worked for right before my current employer only took the taxes out from the city where the shop and office were located. I have a feeling that is not the right way, and my current boss has it the right way, but I just wanted to know what you guys do.
Thanks a lot. |

Re: Question About City Taxes...
I think it depends on the city. Here in NYC, they used to have a non-resident tax, so any wages earned in the city were taxable regardless of where you lived. But they stopped that, so only actual city residents pay city tax. I have employees not living in the City who don't pay it even though they earn wages there; - but they do pay other state's tax when we do public projects in another state.
