Proposal Faxing
Is it standard practice for subs to fax proposals to all Generals bidding on a particular project? we have just been doing it for the gc's that ask us. But, I figure since the work is done I might as well just fax them to all. As a GC if you just received a proposal over fax from a company you had not used (or heard of maybe), would you take it in to consideration or just ignore it?

Re: Proposal Faxing
Ignore nothing until you have a researched conclusion that would dictate your ignoring them.

Re: Proposal Faxing
I think it would help you as a sub as long as your regular g.c.s don't find out, which is inevitable. When I bid jobs,I think of myself and my subs as a team, working together to win the bid. When I win a bid those sub's who bid it with me get the work. Unless thier price is way out of line I don't shop thier bid out of loyalty and appreciation of thier taking the time to bid it with me. If it's almost a filed sub-bid situation where every one has the price, I feel no such loyalty and will shop around for lower bids if I win the job. Just my two cents. Phil

Re: Proposal Faxing
I agree with philner and genecarp for the most part, the only exception is if you are bidding on a project for GC's that you really don't have any long term working relationships with and wern't included on their bid list, I would call them and speak with the person you need to and ask them if they would accept a bid from you, giving them your 30 second sales pitch and that you feel you could be an asset to them now and in the future and would like the opportunity to bid on thier project.
At least if you get a YES you know it will at least be considered along with the other bids and if you get a NO you know not to send an unsolicited bid over, but at least ask them if you can be included on future projects. Like malco said, you never know what may transpire, especially in these times.
