Anyone use the internet for pricing out materials instead of going to the store or yacking on the phone ? It would help alot if I had a price list I could base my estimates off of. Thanks for any info

Re: Price List
Some suppliers offer stock pricing online if you have an account with them, I know Fergusons does for plumbers.

Re: Price List
The prices won't be very helpful unless they're from the supplier you intend to get the materials from. One of the gems in Stone's "Markup & Profit" is always get a supplier material quote over $300. His point being that pricing for profit requires accurate material quotes. Don't be tempted to be fast & loose for convenience.

Re: Price List
When I need a price after hours and
can't get it from a regular supplier, I check Lowes. They will always be higher than what I'll really pay.

Re: Price List
It is so hard to find items on there sometimes even with the best search attempts I come up with squat.

Re: Price List
I know my discounts on a lot of product lines like Kohler, so I can easily use their website to look up pricing, but stuff like copper pipe and fittings varies with market price, so those I have to call on.

Re: Price List
Years ago I picked up this CD from Home Depot. Many of you have seen it. It has a Craftsman Costbook in it. It also has what HD calls Maintenance warehouse, which includes everything other than building supplies. Cleaners, hardware, miscellaneous stuff that you would typically put on an expense or charge partially for.
What I am getting at, is that when I launch the program, it asks me if I would like to update my materials cost list, at which point, it goes to HD's master server and updates ALL the prices to current market value based on the commodities exchange. As this program was ONLY available to contractors, the prices are what YOU as a professional pays when purchased through Contractor Sales. I haven't seen it available in quite some time, but I will put in a call and see if I can post the program here for upload, or possibly if HD will re-release the software in the near future. I know many of you prefer NOT to use HD as a supplier, but none-the-less, having a program that is updateable twice daily based in market fluctuations is a real asset to your bottom line.
