Permits Pulled At Home Depot

We have one major home depot that servers the entire downtown DC area. It is located in the heart of the city and most people almost have to buy from them.

Our building permit office has set up a permitting center inside the home depot. It lets you know what permits you need for what jobs and allows you to pull basic non-structual permits at the home depot where they set up a kiosk.

What do you guys think of this idea??

The city of DC needs to generate a little more cash flow and this was so bozo in the building departments bright idea. Do people spit on them when they walk by the kiosk?

LOL

I actually think its a good idea. They can inform homeowners of what permits are needed for what jobs and cut back on the hacks doing work by informing the owners of the necessity to hire license guys who can pull the required permits

I'll tell you what though I recognized a few of the DCRA staff and stopped to chit chat with my big mouth and I got asked for a few cards from owners shopping.

Probably not worth giving up the cards to them but thought that should some promise

Re: Permits Pulled At Home Depot

I actually don't mind permits I see so much hack work in CA it's sickening. The problem here for a small service company is the cost of permits, the cost of a business license in every city you work in, you basically have to hold inspectors hand here and most will not let you know when there coming and 25% of the time they don't show. For any sizable job it's the way to go but for small stuff it really drives up the cost.

Home depot should have a class "how to hirer a contractor 101".
The first lesson could be on if you have to drive said contractor to store and pay for the material your halfway to a disaster.

Hopefully they will have people there that will also be able to tell you how to do the job "properly" as well and a stamp machine.
