New At Pulling Permits

Hello,

My name is Patrick and I recently opened a company in VA to do small remodeling jobs. I have two questions. During my work experience in the field i was never part of the process of pulling permits. Most of the jobs i am doing are small and don't require permits. But in the interest of being prepared I would like to get some information on the topic and the process of pulling them. Mainly what does my insurance need to be and is there anything other then my class C license that i need to qualify.
My second question is about insurance. Its just me doing the work right now doing everything carpentry, tile, masonry and paint. I need insurance that will cover me in all these fields so im assuming GC insurance but have been hearing about "handyman" insruance and i was wondering if anyone had any experience with that type as to what it covered or if you can pull permits with it ect. I want to be ready if i get a bathroom or kitchen remodel and need to sub the plumbing and electrical and pull the permits. Any startup advice or dos and donts are welcome and apreciated alswell thank you for your time

Patrick

Re: New At Pulling Permits

best advice is to go down and speak with inspectors and ask their process, usually requires plans showing before and after and your GC license, subs pull their own permits.
