Need A New CPA Firm

Can anyone recommend a CPA firm on the East Coast US that understands construction companies, both for residential new homes, land development and remodeling, has a responsive staff, and can make a commitment to growing a business with our team? Proximity to Virginia is less important than the overall quality of the service and experience.

Thanks,

Jeff

ask your colleagues, subcontractors and general contractors who they use. That's your best bet. Good luck.

I have a great firm in NYC as my CPA. How close would they need to be?

Re: Need A New CPA Firm

Like i said, proximity is not as important as quality of service, I'd like to have a firm that can help me grow my business. I am in a really rural area of Virginia. I suppose it would be best if they were on the East Coast. We do almost everything electronically now, so location is secondary. If I need to, I can fly to them for quarterly meetings or whatever comes up. We are a Quickbooks 2007 user, may move up to Sage Master Builder.

My main issues with accounting now are very minor, like entry error in Quickbooks, need to get the program cleaned up from the last two years.

My current CPA believe it or not is also a farmer and he is always out harvesting soybeans or planting corn or something. It can take him a week to respond to a phone call. He is a nice guy but not right for our business.

We are new in the business since 2004, having worked as a construction manager for many years, I now am faced with these issues which my bosses dealt with.

This is my time to grow a really solid business with good systems. We have gotten off to a good start and did almost 1 million this year in remodeling and additions, but I want to move up to home building and development. I am going to take this time in the current slowdown to invest the time in education and personal growth for myself and my remaining employees.

I found one firm in Bethesda MD which is about a three hour trip to DC from here. They may be a good fit for us. I plan on checking on them this week.

I would appreciate the name of the firm in Queens NY if you can forward that. My father grew up in Queens, and my grandmother lived there until she needed care, and came to live with us in Maryland. I think she missed Queens...LOL
