Need Help With Job Pricing

I am trying to put a bid in on a job and before I submit it I just wanted to see what you guys would price it at. It is simply a time estimate all materials are already on site. All I am biding on is the installation of 1"x8" vertical poplar siding, all facia and sophet work (including the 8' deep porches), and wraping all coulmns on the porches. All I have to work with is two guys, Iam more interested in how many hours all of you think it will take, since we all have diffrerent hourly rates based on our location. For the record though the job is in southwestern Ohio.

These are the details; T- shaped building dimensions are 50'x100'x16' with
40'x40'x10' bump out ( the buliding looks just like a T)
-the 40x40 has 3- 8'x40' porches (wrap around porch)
-All roof pitches are 8/12
-all facia and sophet is 1" rough poplar as well

Re: Need Help With Job Pricing

Take the time to learn your trade(s) before entering into a business entity.
You shouldn't really need to research stuff like this. It's a matter of calculation and "estimating".

You may want to consider hiring a professional estimator who knows how to bid jobs and close sales.

Or, find a reputable company that you could utilize your skills as an installer and work for someone who knows how to bid jobs.

Re: Need Help With Job Pricing

I am surprised how unhelpful a bunch of contractors are. I guess none of you ever scratched your head a little bit when you bid on a big job when all of you were just starting out. If the process is so simple and all of you are masters, then why have none of you estimated the time it would take?

Re: Need Help With Job Pricing

How about I bid it at $100,000 and sub it to you if I get it for $50,000? Sound like a deal?

Id venture to guess that most guys didnt just start out and go bidding big jobs. They probably worked in their trade for a while before going it alone, so they had a sense of how to bid effectively. Id also venture to guess that its going to take as long as its going to take. Experience is a tough teacher - she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards. Good luck.

$4500
I feel kind of bad for you, I don't know what your intentions are, or what your background is, but I did just watch a show on HGTV where they had a similar job, and though they didn't mention price, it looked like a job that I would charge $4500 for..

Just kidding of course, don't use my number, I'm just throwing something out there...I think that the best thing that you could do is to try to figure out how much time it would take you "alone" to do, and determine what you would charge for your time times the hours it would take......Plus 10% for a bit of profit, and between 10% and 25% to cover the cost of your time bidding the job, paying for legal papers, paying for phones, advertising, etc....

You can't charge lawn mowing by square footage! You have to consider the corners too!

So you would bid it similar to drywall then? Or do you mean turns rather then corners? And if you did mean turns, would that be complete 180 turns or would you charge 90 degree turns the same as 180 degree turns? Are things like trees and childrens toys considered as part of the square footage or would you need to write a work order to cut around them. And is it the resonsiblity of the contractor to move the toys or does someone else do that. Man....bid a job sure is hard.
