Re: Names

same answer I always give....

use your name, part of your name, a letter from your name....

customers love to know who is doing the work, it's more personal

Re: Names

I use my name because it shows (I hope) that I take pride in my company and will stand behind my work.

Re: Names

One thing about using your name for your business, you really don't have to worry about somebody else using the same name in their business.......(unless your John Smith)....

You should see how many 'Atlantic ******x'x .......there are in our neck of the woods....

Re: Names

Some wise guy once said if it can not run without you, then it is just a job and not a buisness.
If that is true then using your name as a company name would not be such a good thing...
I like the concept of putting your families name on the product, if it is not good enough to do that then it is not good enough for the customer.
This question is like asking someone what their favourite color is...blue!
Call your buiness blue.....
Open the oxford big book and look for something in the A's that could describe or reflect what you do or the service you provide.
Or if your name is Zimmerman call it Zimmerman"s Carpenters Extrodinaire Co.

Re: Names

When I first started in business my father told me to use someone else's last name in case I fail. He figured that at least I would embarrass some other family and not my own. Nothing like a supporting family.

In hindsight so many business' fail so maybe his idea was not all that bad.

Re: Names

You can use your last name and get real big and sell it for the same amount as if you were called Tri county construction.

Re: Names

I don't think the name really matters as long as its not too complicated. As far as family names go, I don't think Toll Brothers gets devalued because of their name.

I wouldn't put too much mind power onto this - you need to think the other way. Instead of thinking "how will my business name make be successful", think "will my business name make me successful"?

Re: Names

Don't even get me started on the choosing a good name thing!

You'll have to search my posts to understand. All I can say is...protect yourself AND the name you choose, and do a bunch of research to be sure some lowlife scum didn't pick the name and use it for a few monthes before he was incarcerated!

I forgot all about that. Did the whole thing drift away or do clients ever say anything to you about it?
