Re: More Stolen Work

hey Bone, do you know about sending out a DMCA notice?
http://futurequest.net/Services/TOS/DMCA/DMCANotice.php
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMCA

I find my images being used occasionally. I send a DMCA notice to the websites Contact Us address, then also one to the webmaster, and the material usually gets removed the next day. If the image is coming up in a Google Image Search you can also send a notice to Google, topic Copyright Infringement

Here's an example of mine. I can send it to you in a .doc form you can edit of you'd like.

that's cool how the theif just cropped your copyright right out the image

I'd just call him and tell him if he needed work he could be my gopher anytime and one day I'll teach him to do work as good as mine.

Cajones!
Maybe they don't have a camera?
In 1980 I went to a meeting on the other side of town, and there was one of our model homes, down to the trim color and shingles! Name on the mail box matched one of the tire-kickers in our Guest Book.
Hope you do better getting your stuff back.

Re: More Stolen Work

Well, that sucks, man.

I'm going to take a couple of rain days in the next month and update my website to include pics of my summer projects. I'll also be adding my logo to the bottom corner of each new pic to help prevent theft. I'd like to say I'll do that with all my current images online as well but that's a big PITA so it'll take a while!
In all your spare time (right!), you might start putting your logo on your online pics. Maybe hire a college kid to do it! Competitors could still steal the pics but it would be more obvious.

Mac

Edit to add: How'd you find out? Oh, got the answer while I was still posting!

Re: More Stolen Work

Bone Saw,

this is absolutely CRIMINAL. I tried calling, but one line was only in spanish and the office line would not accept blocked numbers (and I wasn't about to unblock MY number for these theives)

Hey, maybe if EVERYONE calls, he won't have time to work <G>

I have sent an email to them expressing my feelings.

AND I have saved the page on which the stolen picture appear. I am about to send them to the e-address on your site. Look for something from me, Bill Archibald, and titled "html files from thief"

Re: More Stolen Work

I'd be willing to bet that a lot of companies have no idea you're protected by copyright law, in spite of your watermark. They probably figure either it's just a picture, or you got it from one of those fancy companies anyhow.

Every picture on our site is our work, taken by me. I haven't found any theft yet, but I'm sure it's out there. I suppose it's time for a watermark. Some watermarks are very unobtrusive and hard to eliminate. They look like the alien in "Predator" when he's hunting.

Re: More Stolen Work

You know folks, in reality, you just can't protect your work when it's posted on the internet. I used to watermark my images and disable the R click Save Image option, but I just gave up on this after awhile. What's the point?

But when I find any of my images being used by another company I always send out those DMCA notices!

I quit posting pictures on the net, just because of that.

I need to learn to watermark my internet pictures.

Re: More Stolen Work

Are you sure those are your images, not "similar" images of their work?

This really irks me, you can buy stock images for a $1, or better yet take pictures of your own work. The DMCA notice with links to the proof usually work. There are some free water-marking programs out there, search on google. I know it takes away a little from the image , but I'd put your website address on the pics with a transparency (see below) or do a logo thing in the corner and the name on a few key places real small so it can be identified. Seems like a lot of hassle but it's more of a hassle chasing down the idiot that stole them, getting him to remove them and the aggravation.

The blue "FN" button (lower left corner of your keyboard) and the "PrtSc" button (upper right) at the same time, then open paint and click "control and V" at the same time. You can then save it as an image and edit if needed.
