Lien Or Collection

How do you guys handle non-paying customers?

I've had a couple of out-of-state customers who refused to pay (in fact simply disappeared and didn't return calls, etc). The amount was around $500-600, so I figured it wasn't worth it to go through the small claims court hassle or try to put a lien on their house.

But what about collection agencies? I'm thinking of looking into that, although I've never heard of any contractor who used collection services.

What do you do in cases like that? Any recommendations?

Alex

Re: Lien Or Collection

Lien the property, if it is in your state, if the property is also out of state, it would probably not be worth it. For that small of an amount, it may not be worth it anyway, but these days, every dollar counts.

The collection agency I use won't touch it, unless it is over $1000 in collections.
