Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 suite for FREE

Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 suite for FREE

While we're on the subject of free-after-rebate software, Fry's has the Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 suite (three-user) for--wait for it--free after rebate. Actually, it's a pair of rebates. I'm generally not a fan of security software, but if you're in the market, Kaspersky got a fairly decent review from CNET.

Kaspersky is very good. They're out of some eastern block country (Poland, maybe?), and they get the virus information before companies like Symantec and Norton even know the virus is out. Kaspersky has been the "engine" for years behind most of the antivirus software we commonly use anyhow.

Probably the only one better than Kaspersky is Sophos, but that's far too expensive for the home user and most small businesses.

If you must have one, Kaspersky is excellent. An even better solution is to use your brain and avoid infectious circumstances to begin with.

I'm no fan of sludging up the Windows morass even more than it is straight out of the box.

Thanks.

Too bad I didn't hear about this 2 days ago.

I just downloaded Outpost Agnitum 30 day free trial to get rid of 4 malwares that wouldn't leave with the other one I had loaded.

I had Kaspersky IS for a while but it was using up too much of my computer so I switched to COMODO which is also free and less intrusive.

Most of my software is open source, including AVG or Avast for virus control.
And I use Wordpress for my 2 blogs, also free.
I bought 2020 KItchen Design, that wasn,t anywhere close to free.

Comodo issues..

Tried Comodo a while back and some issues with it, losing email and other weird things. Been using Kapersky ever since. On a different tangent, I ordered some truck signs from a company in Florida a while ago. Right after the order, my credit card was used to purchase several hundred dollars in GPS equipment from TomTom in England.

Contacted the sign company who said "it's not our problem, we use Comodo Firewall and it's 100% safe". Even forwarded the information from the credit card company that showed the sign company's web site was where the credit card theft came from. Still got the "not our problem, Comodo would have notified us of the error".

My complaint with the BBB and Florida Attorney General's office is still pending, it's been over a year now.

Charges were contested with the credit card company. Few months later got a letter from an attorney for the sign company saying his client is filing legal action against me for "slander, and pain and suffering, and loss of business".

And his client will travel up here to MA, to make a personal visit to "clear things up el mono to mono".

I have yet to see the official "summons" or a visit. I did find several other complaints against the sign company however.

Not losing sleep over it either...
