Just Getting Started....
Just wanted to say hello to everyone and introduce myself. My name is Domenic out of Manchester, NH working part-time as a handyman (Handyman Direct). I enjoy doing all different type of projects and generating my own business (marketing is key). I come from a electrical background graduating from Greater Lawrence, Vocational High School in Andover Ma and working as an apprentice for a few years at East Cost Electrical. I got into the handyman business from doing all type of odd jobs for family members and friends also as a landlord you have to be able to maintain your units or have the cashflow to have a management company do it for you. Anyways hello everyone.........
P.S I just got my first big job rehabbing a basement how is everyone else doing in this crazy market? |

Hi Domenic and welcome. I was just wondering, what kind of license and insurance is required in NH for handyman service doing a basement rehab?

Re: Just Getting Started....
So, you couldn't hack it as an apprentice, and hung a few pictures at aunties house and you're working on peopl'es homes with no insurance?

Re: Just Getting Started....
A license to what?
Drive? Be a handyman? There is a whole bunch of professions that require a license here: http://www.nh.gov/nhes/elmi/licertreg.htm If your doing a basement rehab, how do you get the electric installed w/o a license?

Thank you guys for being so friendly (lol) Celtic I'm not here to fight with you about what I'm doing to get my projects done but I contracted the electrical out to my friend that has a his journeyman electrical license. If you don't have anything to say positive please keep your comments to your self.

Here's a thought for you - say what you mean and stop BS'ing people.

Re: Just Getting Started....
Celtic,
Once again I don't need to fight with you about my business so please stop responding to my post. It seems that you have nothing constructive to say so don't say anything at all. On another note I just picked up another job at a friends house doing all kids of small projects such as a drop ceiling in his basement and some custom cabinets. Things are slow right now but I'm about to buy a Astro Van or a truck which would you guys get? |

Re: Just Getting Started....
Well anyway, Celtic. He did mention electrical experiance. Maybe we should mention the plumbing from that basement! NH does require that for licensing and we all know you can't remodel basements without doing some form of plumbing to it. I guess it's going to be his cousins brothers sisters father that does plumbing.
Domenic, in here licensed, insured professionals abound and recognize professionalism when they see it. You qualified yourself as 2 things in your OP. 1.) You are under qualified to claim yourself as anything but a electricians helper. 2.) You are qualifying yourself as basically a DIY'ER turned handyman. Last thing i will say on this is simple. Don't come in here trashing someone else if you can't take the reprocussions people assume from your post.

Re: Just Getting Started....
who'd he trash? Lets pretend I am new here: I see a guy who does not require a license doesn't mention insurance, although he does say he is with handyman direct(they require insurance, don't they?) And his skills and backround are being challenged by a guy who is a "pro pie taster"

Re: Just Getting Started....
I always love the egos on this forum....guys who won't get out of bed for less than $600 a day. Have 13,000 employees, receive letters from the President telling them how good they are and how bad everyone else is.
Inspectors coming to them for help understanding the code.......you name it, it's been here. The biggest thing we all need to remember is this is a big country and every State and Town does things differently. What works in Pa. might not apply in Maine? Right to work States and Union States create totally different personalities in people

What the OP claims does not correspond with what the State of NH requires (See #7 ). My trade as a "pie taster" is irrelevant ...what is relevant is that I took the time to back up my position. Since your new here, my suggestion is that you click here: View Public Profile and see what my occupation is.

![]() I don't see where any of that is valid here. The OP claims NO LICENSE IS REQUIRED....as stated previously, licensing IS required by the State of NH. No one is mixing apples and oranges here; comparing Pa. to Maine; or debating right to work, work at will, union and non-union....plan simple facts with no ulterior motives.
