Interview Before Starting
What points do you discuss about when conducting your last interview with the client prior to starting building works on site? I want to form a list so I can design a checklist for this type of interview. I sometimes find myself forgetting some points to discuss and sometimes important ones too. Thanks.

Re: Interview Before Starting
We do remodeling so we discuss amongst other stuff - locations of breaker panel, water shut off, location for dumpsters, onsite storage location, access to the job site - garage code, key, lock box, parking, where the job trailer will go, HOA issues...

Re: Interview Before Starting
I am not a builder, but before we start we give them a call and let them know when we will be showing up and what WE EXPECT FROM THEM. "If you have anything in your attic worth covering, you should cover it because dust willf all into the attic. If your garage has no ceiling, please remove or cover any cars in the garage. If there are any potted plants, bbq's or anythign like that around the house, we ask that you move them. if you can't we will, but we prefer you do. You might also want to remove anything breakable from your walls. Usually things don't fall, but I don't know how well they are hung. The dumpster will be ariving in the morning so you will probably want to park outside that night."
By the way these are things we all discuss during the estimate and is written on the back of our contract. Other issues are site requirements like where the electric is located. Where the water is located (if necessary). Where we can park, if working for commercial or multi family. |

Re: Interview Before Starting
My last interview involves money. I always ask point blank if there is any reason they can think of for not being able to meet the payment schedules. I emphasis how important they are if the job is going to go on as scheduled.
