Intent To Do Business Form
Does anyone here use an "Intent to do Business" form before the "official" contract is completely written. If so, would anyone be willing to share that form. Thanks in advance.

Re: Intent To Do Business Form
Never heard of one. The only paper work I ever use before the contract is for "pre-construction services" when the customer requires additional services such as plan/design work.

Re: Intent To Do Business Form
Legally or for what other reason would an "Intent To Do Business" form help out in any way?
I intend on putting up a 3-4 season room, but priorities change. Are you looking for this to try to get a bank loan? Ed |

Re: Intent To Do Business Form
I'll bet that's it. I think a letter of intent to do business would be a bigger hit at the bank than a fill in the blank form. Kinda like a well written business plane vs. a fill in the blank plan.
Don't take too many short cuts when providing this info to the bank. They'll shot you down quick.

Re: Intent To Do Business Form
Yeah, before I can answer this, I would like to know the reasoning required.
It also may be for a pre-contractual relationship preferring to work one and one to acquire a contract, dependant on design work or other work that could take significant time, money or talent to provide, whereby it would be unwarranted to provide this pre-contractual tasks unless otherwise guaranteed of receiving the actual work authorization and contract. Re: Intent To Do Business Form
I've had to do an introductory letter to a builder before so they can satisfy the investment groups auditor. You basically tell them what you do, that you appreciate their business and I even had to include a deposit, which was returned (un-cashed bankdraft) once the first job was completed. I won't be doing that again with them (should have been the other way around).

Re: Intent To Do Business Form
Sorry . . . this probably should have been in the "File Swap" area AND I did not clarify very well. Our company does a certain amount of design and "short", relatively non-detailed estimate for potential clients. After a certain amount of time(Not very well defined yet), we ask for a deposit to continue and really drill dill to a final "long", line item estimate. I'm looking probably more for a deposit form . . . makes more sense?
Thanks, Jim |

Re: Intent To Do Business Form
Wouldn't that be called a proposal?

Re: Intent To Do Business Form
Do a search under pre construction services here and on the web. We don't use a template at all for these types of contracts because they don't seem to fit our needs. We like to write them up in paragraph form so that it is personalized to each client.
This is a really good read for what you're doing too http://www.contractortalk.com/f12/process-brand-harmony-31494/ Good luck

Re: Intent To Do Business Form
Actually, it's a contract that hires you to do the proposal. It's used when the customer needs a lot of advice and guidance to put the project in a state that can be bid on.
ie; customer wants an addition with a kitchen and has no idea how they want to lay it out or what to use for finishes. It's totally unplanned. Or, customer needs estimate for the bank and the project funds have not yet been approved.
