Inspection Scheduling
I am having scheduling inspectionsl
We are a fire prevention/suppression contractor. Recently I have had trouble w/inspectors not keeping inspection appointments, specifially in commercial kitchens. I know for most inspections, the inspector shows up in a 2 or 3 hour time frame. In our work, I have to shut down the kitchen to do the inspection, which may take a hour or more. If the inspector is not on time, say he shows up at 11:30 AM, I cannot shut down the kitchen as that impacts my customers profit. I have had one inspection that has been delayed 4 times because the inspector did not keep his appointment. I have had 2 inspectors who took the day off. This was after I paid motel and meal expenses for my tech. Now, I cannot bill my customer for my work until after the inspection has been done and approved. At present, I am sitting on $7,000.00 that I cannot bill or collect for until the inspections are done. Any suggestions? I could go to the City Managers, but that would probably cost me dearly in rejected inspections. Fireguy |

Re: Inspection Scheduling
I can see that getting frustrating. Have you tried explaining your situation to the building department/inspector when you call to set up an appointment. Could you try to be the first appointment of the day and expain that you only have a certain amount of time open to you. Maybe if you offered a bonus like free lunch at the restruant or something they might be on time for that!

Re: Inspection Scheduling
when pulling permit make your request known that the business is in effect closed while the test is in progress.

Re: Inspection Scheduling
be very careful with the offer of lunch, etc. That can be considered a bribe.
Inspectors will for the most part do what they want to do. I have a few who will do what they say they will do but otherwise I tell the customer what to expect. |
