How Long To Keep Job Files?
We are a CA subcontractor wanting to know how long we legally need to keep old job files?
If anyone knows or has a link to a site that provides this information, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks |

Re: How Long To Keep Job Files?
At least until the warranty is up, but since you can be audited by the IRS up to 7 years back, I'd suggest keeping them at least that long. However why would you want to get rid of them in the first place? Keep them forever, that ammount of detail sitting in boxes on shelves in your warehouse may add value to your business when it is time to sell.

Re: How Long To Keep Job Files?
We've had customers call us 15 years later for new work. Old customers love it when you remember things about them or the project you did. It is invaluable to recall important things. Keep them forever.
