How Fast Can You Get To It

Got a call tonight from my old football coach and he wants new siding, which is great. Next question is when can you get to it. I respond probably end of August or first of September. He says he needs it done by July 1. He said if I come tomorrow to give him a bid he's ready to pull the trigger. My question is should I give him the bid at higher price since I will be changing my schedule and who in their right mind can get to it before then.

Do you need the business?

Did he call you because he thinks he can take advantage of your previous relationship to make you do it by Canada Day?

Why does he need it done so quickly?

You said a 'bid', are there others bidding on the job too?

Re: How Fast Can You Get To It

I don't need the bussiness but it would sure be a nice job to do. He called last week and we had an meeting set up for Monday, then he called tonight and wanted to know if I could come tomorrow. Not sure why it needs to be done now, he does have damage from rock and nuts hitting the house with the mower. The way he explained to me was I was the only one bidding the job and it was mine if I came tomorrow. I'm sure that would change if I'm way out of his price range. I guess I'll find out tomorrow

It's business and blowing off scheduled customers is not good. My mother knows this and stands in line like everybody else.

I will work Sundays for her.

Juggling a schedule is very risky.....we have been wet in Oklahoma for weeks...putting us behind, and storm damage got calls in for roofs.....good paying jobs....more new home estimates out, 2 more signed, and everyone wants a start date..........geez......

Re: How Fast Can You Get To It

My old football coach was like a father to me and his advice and guidance stays with me to this day. I'd still either jack the charge or make him wait because your business is priority #1. You may lose his friendship, but he doesn't pay your bills.

If you feel bad, just remind yourself of suicide mondays

I'm not for sure if he knew me at the time. He didn't spend much time with the JV, maybe I should raise the price for that too.

Yes, Gave him my price and he said go for it. I raised it $40 per square on 26 square and no questions were ask (on the price that is). Now just have to fit it in the schedule.

Glad you got the job, Matt, - - usually from my (28 years of) experience, - - I find that around 9 times out of 10 when I get that kind of call the 'rush' is that they're all but ready to 'sign on' with someone else that 'very next day' (or whatever), - - so if you can get there in time, and with a better price, - - you get the job just like that.
